Arabella is a high drive 13 month old spayed tricolored merle Border Collie. Fully vetted. Very affectionate, sweet and eager to please. Great Sport Prospect. She would excel at disc, flyball or agility. Food and toy motivated. Loves to fetch. High ball and disc drive. Fetches and drops disc/ball at your feet (working on returning to your hand). Even if you throw a disc poorly she will probably catch it. She is highly trainable and has made great progress behaviorally since coming into rescue. She was surrendered because of her high energy levels and her owners failing health. With appropriate exercise and relaxation training she now has a good "off switch" and is able to relax around the house with the other dogs.
She can be possessive with other dogs but she has made huge strides after coming into rescue. The first couple days she would nip and herd the other dogs but with training and clear boundaries set that behavior is almost entirely absent now. She does very well with submissive dogs and acceptable with dominant dogs (that’s where most of our training time was spent). She would probably excel as a single dog as well but this is not a requirement.
Good with dog savvy children, preferably 10+. Lived with cats in her previous home. Showed some initial reactivity on leash to people and dogs but was able to be redirected. With targeted training this could be overcome.
House and crate trained. Loose leash walking is great. She is sensitive to strange sounds but the more she is exposed to them in a positive way the less she reacts. She will bark but not obsessively. When she came to me she would attention bark/whine but ignoring this behavior has lessened it considerably. This is a dog who needs clear boundaries and knowledgable training to be successful, and she has so much potential! This dog is so much fun. Looking for an adopter who will bring out her best. While she has the capability to be great, she could also become spoiled if not directed appropriately.
Arabella is being fostered in the St. Louis Mo area.
