Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Miss GiGi, short for Glamour Girl, who was her breeder’s pick of the litter 8 years ago, had 3 litters at 2,4, and 6 years of age and is now retired, looking for that perfect home where she can be loved, fussed over and enjoyed for the delightful girl she is.
Rare in rescue dogs, we know all about GiGi’s life from birth to the present. She comes from an AKC breeder of merit of Miniature and toy American Shepherds (Mini Aussies prior to a few years ago). She was one of the owners 4 females and 4 males, treated as pets and responsibly bred. In fact, GiGi was intended to live her life in the only home she’d ever known but a year into retirement she began to get intolerant of the other breeding females and seemed unhappy with the chaos of a multidog, multi puppy situation.
The breeder reached out to ASF so we could find GiGi the perfect soft landing. With her complete panel of genetic testing and her certified clear hips and elbows, she is likely to enjoy excellent health for years to come. GiGi is now spayed and had a full dental (vet said her teeth were “beautiful”) and is ready to consider her next chapter.
Those interested in GiGi will need to understand that, until two months ago, she had only known one life. Her owner handed the foster the lead with tears in her eyes. She was brought to a farm with two elderly and one ridiculously high energy young resident dogs, two kittens (one of them in the Velociraptor stage) and free-ranging horses, donkeys, goats and chickens sticking their heads over (or through) the house yard fence. She looked like she’d landed on the moon. But she rolled with it, quietly processing her new surroundings, warming up to it slowly. She was given the time she needed to get comfortable and build trust with her foster family. It took her nearly two weeks to ask for a cuddle, but when she did it came from her heart and flooded her fosters with happiness for her.
GiGi is now 5 weeks post spay and her spirit is getting happier every day. She likes the company of the older dogs, plays with the two year old dog, LOVES the cats – even the crazy one - loves to be outside in the fenced yard for HOURS watching the aforementioned big critters, loves a walk on a well groomed trail, though less thrilled about a hike through rugged rocky, branch laden woods, LOVES to be groomed (“Please – don’t stop!!”), sits for treats and takes them gently (and as often as you’ll give them, though she could stand to lose a few pounds), is quiet in her crate at night and good loose in the house for several hours with the other dogs.
If you think your home would be a good fit for GiGi, and have the patience to build trust with her at her own pace let us know. GiGi will do best with a friendly resident dog or two to show her the ropes. She has not been exposed to young children but properly introduced and supervised once she is confident in her new surroundings may be fine. She likes to please and verbally corrects quickly.
