Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Eevee" is a 4-yo (born 7-15-16), 85-lb spayed Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix (DNA-confirmed) who is mellow for the most part, playful, and very protective of her territory. She has a beautiful soft, silky coat and a big, fluffy tail. Eevee's DNA test report is available on request.
Eevee is friendly with people she meets on neutral ground such as on walks. However, she is a different dog inside the house. She barks menacingly at visitors, even those she has met before, and will sometimes snap at them if they approach her. Eevee does NOT charge at visitors, only reacts to them if they approach her.
Eevee's former adopters (8-27-17 and 8-15-20) had a trainer work extensively to try to help her overcome her over-protectiveness. A technique that worked nearly all the time was for house visitors to offer Eevee treats while she was kept on leash, then to ignore her until she chose to approach them.
Eevee is fine with other dogs, especially small dogs. (Eevee lived with four smaller dogs in her previous home.) She loves to chase and be chased (see elsewhere on this page for a video) and likes to play rough, just like a German Shepherd. She is selective of the dogs she wants to play with; at dog parks, she is often disinterested in the other dogs.
We don't know how Eevee is with cats, but given the nature of her two breeds (livestock protection dogs), I imagine she'd be OK with them. Eevee was totally chill walking among wild turkeys in her most recent home.
Eevee is very well behaved in the house and prefers being inside to being outside--though she does like to romp in open space. She received formal obedience training while with one of her previous families and obeys numerous commands. Eevee walks excellent on leash and is completely non-reactive towards other dogs she sees. She has excellent recall off-leash.
As mentioned, Eevee is protective of her territory and part of that behavior is alarm-barking at just about any unusual sound or sight. In Eevee's previous home they had a deck that overlooked a nature trail frequented by many people and dogs. Eevee would bark whenever she saw a person or dog on that trail.
Eevee likes to go for car rides and is a polite passenger.
Eevee loves to play fetch and to be chased, especially with a toy in her mouth. She likes to dabble in water but is not keen on swimming.
Eevee was adopted from GSRSV by a family in Belmont, CA, back in Aug 2017. Though Eevee was a beloved member of the family, her excessive barking and overly-protective behavior led them to return her to GSRSV in late August 2020. She was adopted again on 12-20-20 but returned two weeks later due to her over-protective behavior inside the house
Eevee's adoption fee is $210. She is located near Sacramento.
