Mochi, Carys’ bonded partner, is a lovely Siamese looking cat who has had a rough life. Her entry into my home began in a quiet, spare bedroom, where she quickly sought shelter beneath a bedside table. For weeks she would quietly eat and use her litterbox while I slept at night. While she has resisted my efforts to coax her out thus far – we’re entering week five – she’s been coming along in the last week. She will now venture out of her room and move into my bedroom – often with fellow foster cat Ollie by her side, allowing me to see her.
Mochi is a smart girl – she now will stop in the doorway, sit quietly and watch me watching her, and seems intrigued when I talk to her and call her name.
While she’s not yet ready to venture forward, she is making strides at her own pace. And the fact that she’s curious about me and no longer quite as scared, chances are she’ll soon be willing to make contact.
Mochi is a kitty who bonds with other kitties moreso than humans. She may never be a cat that specifically wants to cuddle with you--she seems to reserve her affection for her buddy, Carys.
Mochi would do best in a quiet and patient home, who will let her blossom at her own pace. She lost her previous home when her owner was hospitalized, and then had to move to a long term care facility where she could not bring her pets.
