Arrival story: Cassie came to us from Detroit Animal Care & Control when a plea was put out for someone to transport her to the vet after it was suspected she had been hit by a car

Approximate age / Weight: 1 year / 30 lbs

Personality: Our sweet baby girl, Cassie, had a rough start to her puppyhood. She arrived at the shelter after being hit by a car, and the ER vet determined she had 2 hip fractures that would require surgery and a long road to recovery. Now almost 5 months later, Cassie is completely off activity restriction and thriving. She is a fun-loving girl who wants to play with the other dogs in her foster home, run around in the yard, go for car rides, or chew on a nylabone or a peanut butter kong. When she’s not romping around, Cassie insists on being a lap dog. Cassie is a very snuggly girl who wants to be curled up in bed with you or sleeping on your legs during tv time. She will settle down nicely once she’s been given appropriate outlets for her puppy energy and will quietly chew on her toys.

Cassie enjoys walks on hiking trails or in fields, but being around traffic makes her very anxious. Because she was on activity restriction for so long, she's just now beginning work on her leash skills.

Cassie is crate trained, but has been left out for a few hours at a time and does fine. If crated, she prefers to be in the same room as the other dogs. She plays nicely with other playful dogs, but can sometimes make a nuisance of herself with dogs who don't want to partake in playtime. Although Cassie likes almost everyone she meets, she can be shy at first and needs slow introductions. Overall, Cassie is just a fun and playful pup ready to put the past behind her and move forward with a family to call her own

Forever home: Cassie is looking for a home with an active family that will give her all the love and attention she deserves, especially after everything she’s been through. Ideally, she wouldn’t have to be left alone often, and her family would be able to invest in her continued training and socialization. She will do best with a playful canine companion. Because of Cassie’s injuries, her doctors said she will have arthritis when she’s older, so having her on medication for pain management in the future is likely. Cassie requires a physically fenced yard so she can run freely and burn off her puppy energy safely.
