Meet MALA!
This sweet gal was brought in by the Emmett City Police. The neighborhood city kids were teasing her relentlessly through the wire fencing (on the business property).
She had a rough past and is now so ready for a bright and happy future!
We are very excited to have MALA join us and know she will get an awesome home!
Lou, with "Good Citizen Dog" (208-971-6229) is weekly working with MALA to help her be an excellent American Bully ambassador. He said, "MALA is a quirky hippopotamus" who makes him laugh.
Here is Lou's evaluation ---
o Sociability: MALA is happy to see you and eager to greet, very alert, and just wants to please. MALA does present some fence barrier issues. Her past owner taught her to protect the business property. The first time I meet her she was in a small play yard as I approached the yard she went into protective mode. I sat by the gate and talked to her she would take treats when I would touch the gate she would go back to protective mode.
The second time I meet MALA it was in the visiting area of the shelter she greeted me with happy tail wagging and very friendly. I fitted her with a Wonder Walker harness and we worked on leash manners. MALA starts out pulling and after a few blocks will relax, but she is always on alert for small animals. MALA has a high prey drive.
o Tolerance: She was very squirmy but allowed me to touch all areas of her body, paws, teething push her to the ground. The whole time she was thinking let's play.
o Arousal: She loves her squeaky toys, and thrives on the attention the more she gets the more she wants to please. MALA has not been tested with small kids and due to her size and strength, I recommend a home with older kids (12+ years old).
o Resource Guarding; Tested by giving her a bully stick and then taking away, dropping it to the floor, and reaching for it. MALA sat when told and obeyed the leave it command.
o Dog Interaction: I walked MALA up to several kennels where she had no reaction to other dogs of various levels of excitement. She greeted them quietly and friendly by sniffing or licking them. The dogs varied in size from small to large. I did a side by side walk with a male GSD/mix she did very well we had several sniff and face to face greets. Towards the end of the walk, they got to play in the water. MALA appears to be able to live with another dog with a proper introduction.
o Cats: No cats or small dogs/animals.
o Children: Again, no small children based on MALA’s size and strength. Older kids would be great as she has teenage friends.
****************************************
She is a favorite with PAL volunteers and they often take her home.
Per the volunteers: loves to ride in a car, comes when called, used to being groomed, is housetrained. Loves toys (see video), treats, belly rubs, attention, and to be with her people.
Does not: jump fences, dig, chase cars, urinate when scared.
MALA is quick to learn and eager to please. She loves to walk but walks on a mission and does not have time to smell the roses. She knows: sit, shake, down, stay, come. Is learning: leave it.
She is medium/low energy and will love daily playtime in her large yard. An occasional car ride will be an awesome treat.
MALA requires a home with adults (OK with kids 12+ years old) who are patient and consistent and a 6+ ft. privacy wooden fence.
MALA is 4.5 years old, a beefy 84 lbs. (is on a diet and should weigh 70 lbs.), approx. 21” (from withers to ground), a gorgeous cream coat with sweet, soft amber eyes.
We believe she is a pure “American Bully” as she has a compact, bulky, muscular body and a big, blocky head. We LOVE her big bully smile (see photos).
