Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Patrick Dempsey is a very special 5-6 month old boy with compromised back legs. Despite his disability, he gets around amazingly well and his personality is great.
He was part of a litter of kittens born as an accidental litter to a cat belonging to 2 very young roomates. When 5 weeks old, they kittens started dying. After 3 died without apparent symptoms, Patrick acutely became unable to use his back legs and was brought in to the emergency clinic. He could stand up but was also very very weak. He was covered in fleas and his red blood cell count was lower than the doctor had ever seen in a live kitten (and he was only barely alive) - 5% - because of the fleas. The owners did not have any money to put into medical treatment - and ultimately, wanting them to have a chance, signed over the 3 surviving kittens to purrfectpals. They also promised to get the mother spayed.
He (and one of his siblings) got blood transfusions that night and flea control. His 2 siblings were caught just in time and did great - and have been adopted. He gained strength with the blood transfusion but his back legs had been permanently damaged - presumably due to a hypoxic insult to the spinal cord from the severity of his anemia. He couldn't move them at all for a few days then slowly regained some movement and function. He can now walk and run and play - but his legs are visibly very abnormal and climbing is still a big challenge.
