My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chief is a 7 month old black lab mix. He's full of life, energy and love to give to that special family. He does well with children of all sizes, as well as other dogs and cats. He really wants to play with the bunny, but the bunny doesn't want to play with him!
Chief has been a fast learner. He came to us at six months old, having never been potty trained or taught any commands. He has done very well with house training, but still has an accident once in a while. He is kennel-trained. Zero accidents in the kennel. We crate him at bed time and while we are at work. He learned "no" first, quickly followed by sit, which usually comes with a handshake, even though we don't ask for it. He doesn't like to answer to "Chief," so it may not be a name he likes. (Or maybe it's just selective hearing.)
Chief likes to be close to people. He will be the first one to snuggle when you pat the seat beside you. He's even been know to give the kids some hugs!
Chief will benefit from a home with a little extra time to teach him everything he wants to learn. He is eager to please and responds well to encouragement. While he loves being in our active house with kids and critters, he is also content being an only child some days. He's just a fire chief pup waiting for his crew. Is it you?

Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. We are a group of individuals that have come together to save the lives of animals that are in danger of being euthanized. We raise funds to fully vet the animals and to provide them with a stable home until they are adopted. All of the dogs in our Rescue are in Foster homes while they are looking for their forever family. The only time we put a dog in boarding is for a Foster to go on vacation if another Foster is not able to care for them. We appreciate your taking the time to fill out the application to adopt one of our Guardians of the Green Mile pets. The questions that we ask are to only find the right fit for all of our dogs and the families that will be adopting them. Adoption fees are $250 for dogs that are 1 year and older. $300 for puppies under 1 year. Included in the adoption fee: All animals will be fully vetted, micro chipped and spayed or neutered. (Deposit of $50.00 required if they are not old enough to have the surgery) Renter’s will be required to submit a copy of their lease agreement to verify Landlord and also All Fosters and Adopters that have personal animals must be spayed / neutered. Age appropriate and healthy enough for surgery, we will verify that with the reference call to your Veterinarian.

We are 100% volunteer operated and will process your application within a few days to a week depending on volunteer availability. We will be checking with your veterinarian and personal references, please let them know ahead of time. Applicants will be interviewed and require a home visit before being approved to adopt or foster a dog from GOTGM.
