Sue is 1.5 years old.
FeLV stands for Feline Leukemia Virus. It’s a viral infection that affects the cat’s immune system and bone marrow. FeLV ONLY affects cats.
The virus is spread from cat to cat through salvia. It does not live long outside of the cat host, so spreading the virus via humane hands is very unlikely. It also does not spread very easily, so just because a cat comes in contact with an FeLV cat does not mean the disease will automatically be spread.
While the virus itself can not be treated, an FeLV cat may require supportive care because of having a weaker immune system. FeLV cats can live perfectly happy lives.
There is a 2 step vaccine the first year and every 2 years after it would be 1 vaccine. Studies have shown that as the cat gets older they grow a natural immunity to catching the disease. Remember no vaccine is 100%.
FeLV and FIV Cats are often not given a chance to be adopted.
Our goal is to find homes for FeLV and FIV Cats
All of our animals have a lifetime commitment. If for any reason, the adoption does not work out, the cats and dogs are to come back to FCHS, which is a NO kill facility. The adoption fees help cover a portion of the care provided to the animals.
Please visit our website under adoptable pets for a range of adoptions fees. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested (dogs) and placed on preventative, microchipped, and more.
You can find our adoption application at https://www.plannedpethoodrockymount.com/adoptions. Applications or questions can be emailed to adoptions@plannedpethoodrockymount.com. Please email for faster response or come on by during our business hours. Please do not call, this may cause delay because we receive a high volume of calls each day and operate with a small staff. Please submit your application once you see a pet you are interested in. Adoption Center hours are Tuesday - Friday 12-6 and Saturday 11-4.
