My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coltrane is a very handsome 2-3 year old Self Red merle Australian Shepherd with a full tail, located in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

He is UTD on all vaccinations, neutered, current on Heartworm/Flea tick prevention and is micro-chipped.

A fully fenced yard is REQUIRED, No children under 10 years of age, No male dogs, and No cats.

If you are looking for an active boy that still enjoys couch snuggles in the evenings,

Coltrane is the best of both worlds.

As long as his daily energy needs are met, he loves to be your snuggle buddy in the evenings either in your lap or cuddled up close on the couch.

He weighs in at 50 lbs. He is fully house and crate trained.

We have been working on basic obedience which he has picked up on quickly and is very food motivated.

He walks well on leash but will still pull if he’s overly excited.

He is a handsome boy that is absolutely full of personality.

He loves to shake paws and give high fives for treats or when he's asking for belly rubs.

Belly rubs are his very favorite!!!

He has the classic velcro Aussie personality and will be your shadow for life.

He loves going for a quick car ride around town, especially trips to Dunkin for Pup-cups.

Any children in the home will need to be 10 years of age or older, as small children do make him very nervous.

Coltrane absolutely loves the female dogs in his foster home and we feel he needs the companionship of another active, playful female pup in his future home to help him adjust.

He loves to have a partner for zoomies around the yard, wrestling and all the other fun activities active pups enjoy doing together.

He does not get along with other male dogs though, ladies ONLY for this handsome guy.

He does have a very high prey drive so cats and other small animals are a NO for him.

With his dominance level towards male dogs and the high prey drive, off leash exercise in unfenced environments and dog park settings would be dangerous, so a fully fenced yard is a REQUIREMENT so he has a safe place to run and burn off energy.

Preferably 6 ft. high as he is very capable and will try to jump the fence if given the opportunity.

Due to this anyone considering adopting him will also need to take into consideration that he will require ongoing STRICT supervision when outside.

Coltrane also has Coloboma/hyperplasia in his left eye.

He can see just fine but it is a birth defect to the iris which allows for too much light to enter the cornea which does cause light sensitivity.

To help with the sensitivity to light we have been working hard on conditioning him to comfortably wear Rex Specs goggles when outside.

He is doing really great with them.

The goggles are a must for both his comfort and his eye health, as protection from sunlight will help to prevent early development of cataracts.

Added bonus is he looks super cool wearing them.
