Here's what the humans have to say about me:
October 7 2009 - Razor was in a pound that gasses and his time was up. A shelter volunteer begged management for a few more days, and had a rescue lined up. I didn't put him on our urgent list as he had rescue, but when I called to make arrangements to take his celmate Red, we were told that Razor's rescue fell through and he would be gassed first thing in the morning. I had nowhere for him...but I said screw it, we will take him too. He still wasn't safe, as he and Red were being euthanized in 9 hours at 8am, and the pound didn't open til 930. I emailed and phoned the pound that night then the next morning, every 5 min from 7am, with no answer...I stopped at 8 and waited...you can't imagine the feelings when the pound manager called at 830 saying they got the messages, and they're alive. Thankfully we did not have to board him as one of our senior volunteer squeezed him in as an emergency foster, despite having 4 large dogs of her own and undergoing chemotherapy right now. This guy has some stars aligned right, or something!
Razor is a purebred shelter mystery; possibly Mal crossed with GSD? He is probably a jumble of a lot more. He is very long and lean with legs that don't end, and when he moves that's all you see - legs everywhere! I can't imagine how anyone could put him in a gas chamber and close the door. He is the HAPPIEST dog I've met in ages. He loves EVERYONE and every second, he has a huge grin on his face. He is silly, goofy, happy - as far as he's concerned, the pound was just moving the party to a new place. He is a first for Barlee's as he showed up at the pound with shaved legs! Hard to tell what someone was doing with him. Of course we had to rename him (he was "Dancer" in the pound)...Gilette? Bick? Razor suits him and it stuck. He's since been groomed and despite being a large active puppy, he was a perfect gentleman and won over the groomers. He does need some training but he's surprisingly more well-behaved than we expected. He appears to have a puppy coat still but will probably have medium to long hair once it grows out. He is pretty active and has been excellent with his canine and human roommates - cats are untested but he is so laid back I expect him to be at worst, workable. He is a happy, people-loving dog and comes with the only usual caution with kids of a large energetic dog. He is very affectionate and has no clue he was in any danger at all, much less an hour away from being gassed. We're still getting to know him but this guy is absolutely a DOLL who can only go to someone who wants an affectionate clown who will make them laugh non-stop.
