Here's what the humans have to say about me:
12/30/20: Nyla had a meet and greet last night with a family with another dog. We have determined that Nyla would probably do best in a home with no other pets as she has a very dominant personality and wants to lord over other dogs. Although she has done well with the dogs here, we feel that Nyla would just be happier getting all of the attention and not have to feel as though she needs to compete with another dog. We would also recommend an experienced dog owner and someone who is willing to set firm boundaries for Nyla. She is very smart and highly trainable but she also needs to know that she doesnt make the rules. Nyla has a lot of energy and is a strong dog, both physically and by sheer will. She needs a stronger owner that she sees as a leader. An active person who can get Nyla out and about or someone who can give her a job would be an ideal home for her.
10/28/20: Nyla is heartworm positive. She has been started on ivermectin monthly so she will just need to be kept on the ivermectin each month until a negative test is obtained. We are only marking Nyla as special needs because she is heartworm positive, however she will not require any special care as long as her adopter keeps her current on the monthly ivermectin.
Nyla is a beautiful shepherd/spitz mix. She is approx 1 1/2-2 years old and currently weighs 64 pounds (she could stand to put on some weight and fill out more). Nyla has had a rough start in her young life. Nyla's original owners had a domestic situation which resulted in Nyla being left alone in a crate for a couple of weeks. She had no access to food or water and nearly died. A lady took her in and saved her life, however she had livestock and cats, both of which Nyla is not good with. After Nyla nearly killed her senior mini pony, she decided Nyla needed a different home that was more suited to her. Nyla can not go to a home with cats due to her high prey instinct. She seems to do fine with other dogs but would probably be best with dogs her size or larger or as an only pet. Nyla loves people and children. She walks fairly well on a leash (does pull alittle at times) and would make a good running, walking, hiking companion. Nyla loves to ride and will jump right in the car, ready to go. She would love a trip to the beach or a fun social day at the dog park. Nyla wants to be with you and does not like to be confined (understandable given her past). A fenced yard or leash walking would be needed for her and she would do best in a more active home. This girl has had it rough and its time for her to find the love, attention and care that she deserves and so desperately craves. Nyla's adoption fee will be $175 to help cover her vetting and cost of care. If interested in giving Nyla her forever home, please submit an adoption application (located on our homepage on petfinder) and your interest via email, text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned at this number), or FB message us.
