Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jin was rescued from a drainage ditch along with his mom and his siblings. They were sensitive to various stimuli and frightened when first rescued. The drainage ditch was extremely dangerous because sudden heavy rains could have flushed and drown them any time. Jin did not get adopted for a few years and spent a year here and another there without knowing what it means to have his own humans.
He was recently adopted to a family in Toronto but his new mom started to have some health concerns could not attend enough time and caring for him at all. He was sent to one of our foster homes in Toronto shortly after being adopted. There is no major concerns that would hinder his adoption to a new home behaviorally or physically. We would love to see him in his FUREVER home with his own humans.
Since he was always with other dogs at the shelters and foster homes, he tends to adapt rather easily when he has other dogs around but he is not a big fan of nosey ones though. In an unfamiliar setting, Jin becomes very busy to investigate. Foster parents recommend his new furparent(s) to WALK him in and around the house and hand feed him as they helped his transition greatly. Once adapted to the environment, Jin becomes a sweet pie, following around caregivers and all.
However, Jin was not like this from the beginning. He used to get scared of everything in the world. Trainers tried their best to desensitize him to a wide variety of situations, people, and objects to strengthen his social ability. Still, trainers are a bit concerned about him adjusting to new environment again once he is adopted. He would appreciate a furparent who can be patient to give him enough time to overcome his fear by himself.
Jin can become sensitive to sound. He is especially vulnerable to abrupt noises and vibrations. He tends to avoid the source of these sounds and hide himself from it. Trainers taught him to 'sit' when he feels this type of fear while wearing a leash, so please use this command accordingly.
In his foster home, Jin becomes somewhat overly sensitive to sudden anything; sudden loud noises, sudden changes in light, swift movements and all. For this reason, we recommend he is adopted to a family in suburb rather than an urban setting. He feels much relaxed when around people and other dogs while he can show some repetitive, but not destructive or self-harming, behaviors; such as walking in circles, when nervous in the house.
Jin likes to watch other dogs outside and loves to run in a dog park. He approaches other dogs to say hello to new friends with manners but eventually he prefers to play by himself or with human rather than other dogs. When a dog constantly expresses interest towards him, he may show a warning sign. But still, he does not show any aggression. He starts to show interest in other dogs once he became fully comfortable with the setting.
Jin is not interested in a cat at all which can be a good news to a family with cats. He doesn’t get bothered when a cat is around. He gets frightened by the cat's aggressive behavior (hissing, kitty-punching, etc.) and tried to avoid the cat as much as possible.
Jin can get a little amped up at times meaning his furparent(s) should be physically fit.
Jin likes treats, but a person can take away treats from his mouth with no problem. He had no sign of resource guarding. Taking away treats off the flour or out the mouth is easy. He does not growl at anyone or anything that comes near his during feeding time.
Additional Notes:
Potty Trained: He urinates/defecated outdoor mostly. A frequent walks will help him adjust to a new routine and rules in the house.
He got dental cleaning and 5 teeth were extracted on Sep 03, 2020
Separation Anxiety - Level 5 : Shows a higher level of independence and dependence.
Demand Barking - Level 2: He rarely barks.
Isolation Disorder - Level 2: No observable problems
