My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Little Smokey lost his home because the owner was sick and could no longer take care of him. His entire life was turned upside down, so Smokey needed some time to adjust to his foster home and come out of his shell and learn to trust new people. He has come a long way and is doing great in his foster home! Smokey needs a very patient family who will understand that he will take some time to readjust to a new home/family.
🐾 Smokey will be 5 years old in January.
🐾 Weight: 20 pounds
🐾 Breed according to paperwork is a Fiest/Lab mix.
🐾 Dog friendly with slow introductions.
🐾 Cat friendly. Smokey lived with two cats in previous home.
🐾 Older children only.
🐾 Knows commands.
🐾 House-trained.
🐾 Crate trained.
🐾 Takes treats very gently.
🐾 Walks well on leash. He pulls when walking on trails, especially right now with the squirrels so active, but when we walk on the road, he stops pulling after the first 20-25 yards and does not react (pull toward) other dogs or cats we pass in their yards.
🐾 Neutered, Micro chipped, and UTD on vaccinations.
Smokey is being fostered in Mystic, CT.
Here is some additional information from Smokey’s foster mom:
Given time to warm up, and him making the decision to come to you, he has gotten much more relaxed and allows you to, calmly, move him into a more comfortable position when your leg falls asleep because he is draped over you.
We have never seen him with children in our care, but Smokey previously lived with a 7-year-old and was devastated to be separated from the child. He is fearful at first with new people, (and may snap at someone who tries to pick him up if he doesn’t know them). Therefore, we recommend older children only who will understand that Smokey is uncomfortable being handled and needs time to get to know his people before being comfortable and trusting. Since he lived with a child and loves to run, he would be great with a family that had dog savvy children that would allow him to ‘blossom’ at his own speed. He loves to play fetch, so someone willing to toss a toy to him and walk him in the morning and evening or have a fenced yard for him to burn off energy would be ideal. He loves to run/jog with my daughter (leashed).
He is well behaved in the home and has not chewed anything that is not intended for the dogs
