Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Iris is a 6 year old, 9.5 pound sweet Yorkie girl. Iris needed to have her eye enucleated immediately upon arriving in UYR. She is being fostered in Orlando, FL. Due to Covid-19 Florida dogs can only be adopted within the state of Florida.
UPDATED BIO 10/03/2020: Hello, I'm Iris. I'm up-to-date on my shots, spayed, microchipped and have had a dental cleaning. Unfortunately, I have also lost my left eye. Here's my sad story. About two weeks ago, my owners decided they didn't want me anymore. This made me very sad. They put me in a crate and left me on the side of a road. How could they do this? What did I do wrong? I loved them and I thought that they loved me too. It was awful being in that crate on the side of the road and it was hot, too. I just knew they would come back for me but they didnt.
I waited and waited. It seemed like I was waiting a long time - when finally a very nice lady found me. She noticed my left eye was badly damaged. She didn't know if my eye was injured before I was left on the road or if I injured it while in the crate and I couldn't tell her. She knew I needed immediate medical care and took me to a vet. The vet gave me an antibiotic, so the infection wouldn't get any worse. She also said I would need to have my eye removed since it couldnt be fixed. YIKES! The lady who found me tried to find my owner, but no luck. She wanted to keep me, but she couldn't afford the costs of the surgery I needed. So, she called United Yorkie Rescue and hoped they could help me. I was so happy when they agreed to bring me into their Foster Care Program. The day after I got to my foster home, I was taken to see a vet. The nice vet took one look at me and said my eye needed to be removed right away, and scheduled surgery for the next morning.
So, now all my surgeries are over and I am healing well. My stitches come out in a week. I'll be so happy and I'll be ready for my new home. Here's a few things I would like in my new home:
- I will need a mom/dad who is retired or works from home. I dont like to be left alone it makes me sad.
- I want a fenced yard so I can run like the wind. The more I heal, the better I feel and I feel like running. Plus, I like to chase lizards.
- I would be okay with children, but they need to be at least 12 years old or older. Remember, I only have one eye, so my ability to see all around me is limited and a youngster might not understand this.
- As far as living with other doggies, maybe if they are little like me, it might be okay. I'd like to meet them first, before I decide. I don't know how I feel about cats.
Some more information about me so you can get to know me better.. I love walks and car rides. I hope my new home likes to play tug-a-toy cuz I do! I'm especially fond of being cuddled on a lap. I like to eat and am really good at it. I still need a little help with my house-training habits. My foster mom thinks my previous home didn't take the time to train me very well, but says she's pleased with the progress I am making.
