Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Boo is an adorable 2-year old small, smooth coat Border Collie/Pointer mix. While she resembles our pure smooth coat bcs very much, some of her physical traits point to her more than likely having quite a few different breeds in her. She has the cutest little face that comes with these adorable little ears that look like someone spilled a leaky pen on them. I call them Mutant Ninja Ears as they are quite unique in shape and form. They feel and look like little white shammys with chocolate chips in them. The first time I ran across Boo at the shelter, she had only been in there for a few days and she would not get up for me – as a matter-of-fact, she wouldn’t even move. I could see from her shelter photo that she appeared to be a Border Collie mix, although her description said Pointer. As the weeks passed, I could not stop thinking about this depressed girl. We then received a phone call that she was on the schedule to be euthanized in a few days. I went to see her that night. This time, she was up, smiling and as happy as can be - which was excellent, seeing how she had now been in the shelter for 26 days. I then came to observe that she had developed quite a love for her male shelter caregivers. Rarely do you see a rescue dog prefer men over women, but this girl clearly has a soft spot for the fellas! When they brought her to me after I paid for her bail, she was so cute with them, all wiggles and love, and as they walked off into the dusk, she had to watch them go – I’ve never seen that before. While I was eager to get home, I waited patiently as she watched them walk off into the dark. Once we could no longer see them, it was my pleasure to say “Come on girl, this is the first (and best day) of the rest of your life – time to get in the car.”
Boo rides excellently in the car and kennels up relatively well. She loves to lay her head in your lap and was a very good girl during her quarantine (which equates to spending 10 days by herself, no contact with other dogs – all while being able to hear them play and have fun without her). When the day finally came that I could introduce her to the other dogs, the first thing she did was wiggle on out there, give one of the dogs a kiss on the mouth and roll on her back to show them all that she wanted to be a part of the group - and would not try to dominate them. She is female though, so this could change in time with how she relates to other dogs. She and her foster sister, Scarlett immediately started to roll around and play and have become fast best friends. Although a bc mix, she comes with that great trait of not barking during play – something we bc owners cherish. She will bark at passer bys who are walking their dog(s), but is not bad at all and calls off relatively well. She walks on the leash very well and trots with a beautiful gait – would make an excellent running partner. She is learning to play ball. This dog is amazingly house trained and did not have one accident the entire time in quarantine. She is not destructive at all and when isolated from others, doesn’t utter a peep. She will sleep wherever you ask her too, but also loves to sleep with you and is a fantastic snuggler who sleeps like a log. She also follows voice commands excellently – knows how to sit, lay, stay, shake hands, etc. She actually broke off her leash while in quarantine on the front porch to run after a cat that was in the middle of the street. My roommate still tells the story as one of the most amazing things he’s ever seen. He thought for sure Boo was going to rip into the cat as she raced up to it with such a vengeance. He then said it was one of the most incredible things he’s ever seen – Little Boo tore off to get to that cat, only to stop dead in her tracks within a few inches of the cat’s face --- at which time she gently planted a sweet little kiss directly on the cat’s mouth. Go figure! He then yelled out “Boo, come!” wherein she immediately came back to him and sat by his side. My roommate was like “Damn…..”
Little Boo has a spay appointment on 9/29/09 and will be available to take home a few days after that. She is being fostered in Torrance.
