Sometimes a dog is surrendered for truly unfortunate reasons and it breaks everyone’s hearts: the shelter director’s, the owner’s and the dog’s. That’s Buddie’s story: given up by a woman who loved him so deeply but fell into very hard times and was forced to give him up. She still calls to check on him, and cries every time. Buddie is a boy you don’t forget.
Everyone could see how special Buddie was, right from the start, which is why he immediately became a volunteer favorite. He is friendly with everyone, and has an easy-going personality and an adoring gaze with those soft brown eyes that instantly melt you. In fact, he has such a loving mellow personality that he's been a role model to many litters of puppies so they could emulate his good behavior - - welcoming them into the shelter when they've arrived as scared strays, and wagging his tail goodbye as they have each found their new homes. Now we're hoping Buddie will get his turn. He’s very much an appreciator of people and loves attention but he is never needy. And you'll never have to call him because he'll be right by you but he is content to keep himself busy if you’ve got things to do. He's that rare blend of intuitiveness, intelligence and devotion: the definition of Man's (or Woman's) Best Friend. He's at the calmer, slower stage in life - - no Fetch, Tug of War or jogging for this boy - - and not playful in the way kids usually want to play with a dog, so we prefer an adult home where not much more will be expected from him other than being the quiet, chill companion that he is.
Buddie is 7 years old, he weighs about 65 pounds, he was successfully treated for heartworm and he’s very healthy. His only flaw is that he isn’t great with male dogs so we want to find him a home where he is the only King in the castle - - we think he’s earned that!! (A Queen in the castle would be fine!) We have no idea what Buddie’s true mix is, but we guarantee you’ll wish there were more of him.
