My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Leo
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: About 7 years
WEIGHT: About 7 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Recommend All Adult Home, or home with older, mature children (14 and older)

Meet handsome Leo. This little guy is shy when he first meets you, but become a super loving dog shortly after. If you are searching for a laid back, adult dog to join your family, please consider Leo.

In late July, CRT was contacted by a family in Ohio. The husband has recently passed away and the wife was having to move from her home. They had 22 Chihuahuas and all needed to be rehomed. All three CRT regions joined together for a rescue mission the first weekend of August. After hundreds of miles and hours of driving, all 22 Chihuahua were safe in CRT foster homes around the country. Leo was one of these dogs. He is now ready for a forever home, with a few less siblings so he can have more attention!

Leo enjoys being with the other small dogs in his foster home. He will play a bit with them. Leo’s favorite thing to do is run with his foster siblings in the back yard. He LOVES the back yard. He enjoys feeling the warm sun on his coat. He loves to be next to you on the patio and you enjoy the beautiful mornings and cool evenings outside. Leo is playing a bit with toys. He has one favorite squeaky toy that he enjoys.

Leo also enjoys being around his humans. Leo is very shy when he first meets you. So we will need his forever family to know that and be patient as he comes out of his shell. After he learns that he can trust you, he is a love bug! He is sweet and gentle to everyone he knows. He loves to be picked up. He wants to spend evenings sitting next to you or even on your lap. He loves the companionship as you watch TV together and assure him that he is the best little boy!

Leo is about 7 years old and has many happy years ahead of him. He weighs about 7 pounds which is perfect for his size. Leo has a deep chocolate coat with a little bit of tan highlights. If you love the dark chocolate coloring, you will love him! Leo has beautiful brown eyes. And we love the way his ears perk up when you call his name. Leo would do well in a household that is calm and quiet, no loud noises or frequent visitors. There are no children in his foster home but we think he would be fine with older, mature children who would understand his smaller size and preferences for quiet days with a few naps along the way. We think he would do well as the only dog or with another small dog. He has not been around cats so we are not sure how he might react. Leo does alert to loud sounds (barks when he hears them). For that reason, we do not think he would be apartment appropriate.

Leo is working on his potty training. He is transitioning from pee pads to going outside exclusively. He is doing well with telling his foster mom when he needs to go out. When Leo is outside, he likes to explore, slowly examining flowers and sticks in the yard. So you may want to keep an eye on him so he remembers to go potty too! When it is time for bed, Leo finds his doggie bed and snuggles in for the evening.

Leo is being fostered in the DFW area. If this sweet boy sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at HTTP://www.chihuahua-Rescue.com/adoption-application/

Leo is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. He is ready to join a loving family, could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $270.63 adoption donation required ($250 adoption donation and $20.63 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
