My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Dottie
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 10 years
WEIGHT: About 7 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Best as an only dog, OK with cats
CHILDREN: All Adult Home

Introducing Dottie. This girl is sweet and is looking for a mellow, laid back home to call her own. She has a happy spirit about her and is sure to brighten your household. Her tail is constantly wagging — she looks like a helicopter about to lift off the ground. We LOVE her.

Dottie was recently surrendered to a shelter with 15 doggy siblings (yes, you heard that right) when her elderly owner could no longer care for them. The shelter contacted CRT and we were able to rescue several of the dogs. These dogs have all been vetted and are now ready to find their forever home. We are excited to be a part of Dottie’s journey.

We think that Dottie would enjoy being an only dog so she could bask in your attention. She gets along well with the smaller dogs in her foster home. But she doesn’t need their company to be happy! There is a cat in her foster home. In the beginning, she was not fond of the cat. But now they have gotten used to one another and Dottie is happy to share a home with her.

Dottie absolutely loves the outdoors. She is super smart and taught herself how to use the doggie door in her foster home. During this “stay at home” mandate, her foster parents have been working from home. That has allowed Dottie to come in and out of the doggie door throughout the day (as they are around to supervise). Dottie loves to explore the yard and lay in the sun. She expresses her joy by rolling in the grass and wagging her tail. She is so happy when she has her freedom and is outside relaxing. We believe Dottie would be happiest in a home with a fenced in yard so she could enjoy her life.

Dottie also loves her humans. She is a little shy (like a gentle southern woman) when she first meets you. But once she knows you are safe, she attaches herself to you and you are her BFF. Dottie loves to climb up on the couch and lay next to her family during TV time. She will lay her head across your leg so you can pet her as you relax. She loves to snuggle. Dottie will also follow you from room to room to see what you are doing – she wants to be included in family activities. Dottie LOVES soft dog beds and big fluffy blankets! She has several beds in her foster home and will go bed surfing around the day to be close to you as she relaxes! If you work at home, she definitely wants a dog bed by your desk!

Dottie is not a big barker. She is a quiet little girl. If you work from home, she would be a great office companion. Dottie has a low key energy level. She is independent, but also assimilates into your family. She is not fond of children and fast movement, so we recommend an all adult home. She would be great for a laid back family or even a retired individual.

Dottie is about 10 years old. When we first rescued her, she was over weight at 10 pounds and almost looked like a bowling ball (literally). Our vet challenged us to get weight off of her for her health. We are thrilled to report that with a focused diet and regular exercise, Dottie now weighs 7 pounds! Great job Dottie! We highly recommend that her adopting family stay focused on weight management, as too much weight is not good for her health. Dottie is primarily white with tan patches. Her coat is soft and fluffy. We love the way her tongue hangs out.

Dottie is potty trained. Keep an eye on her outside, she thinks poop is a delicacy and is a poop eater if you turn your back! She sleeps in a soft doggy bed by your bed at night. She also enjoys climbing up the doggy stairs and sleeping with you in bed if you will let her!

Dottie is being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area. If this sweet girl sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Dottie is spayed, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $270.63 adoption donation required ($250 adoption donation and $20.63 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
