My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Peanut
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 2 years
WEIGHT: About 7 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, Gets along with cats
CHILDREN: Recommend All Adult Home

Meet adorable Peanut. This guy is looking for a fun, but calm home where he can relax, grow up and continue to build self confidence. We are hoping to match him with an experienced family who can help him with his journey.

In late July, CRT was contacted by a family in Ohio. The husband has recently passed away and the wife was having to move from her home. They had 22 Chihuahuas and all needed to be rehomed. All three CRT regions joined together for a rescue mission the first weekend of August. After hundreds of miles and hours of driving, all 22 Chihuahua were safe in CRT foster homes around the country. Peanut was one of these dogs. He is now ready for a forever home, with a few less siblings so he can have more attention!

Peanut enjoys being with the other small dogs in his foster home. He enjoys playing with them, and then will lay down in a doggie bed with them for a nap. Peanut also gets along with the family cat. He will play with the cat, and it is so adorable. Peanut really loves toys. His favorites are the squeaky ones. He loves to grab them and shake them with joy! One thing we have noticed that we actually think is cute – he hoards socks! If you leave your socks on the floor, he will pick them up, carry them to his dog bed, and nap with them! This is definitely a way to get everyone in your home picking their socks up off the floor – LOL.

Peanut loves his foster family. He was a shy guy when we first got him. For the first few days he wanted to stay in his crate and assess the situation. He had so much change – going from a home with 22 Chihuahuas into a new home with two Chihuahuas and a brand new family. He was apprehensive and wanted to make sure he could trust the surroundings. But once this guy warmed up – wow – he came out of his shell. He loves his family. He wants to sit next to you all the time. He loves to cuddle. He has a very chill personality, and would do great in a calm, laid back home.

Because Peanut is very shy when he first meets you, we are looking for an experienced family to adopt him. Peanut will need his forever family to know that he will need a little bit of time and patience as he comes out of his shell. When we first got him, we noticed that loud noises and fast movements startled him and he would sometimes react by cowering. He is getting much better with this over time. After he learns that he can trust you, he is a love bug! He loves the companionship as you watch TV together and assure him that he is the best little boy!

Peanut is about 2 – 3 years old and has many happy years ahead of him. He weighs about 7 pounds which is perfect for his size. Peanut has a medium length creme colored coat. We love his floppy ears! Peanut is fairly quiet. He will sometimes bark if the other dogs start barking, but often he stays quiet during the excitement! Peanut would do well in a household that is calm and quiet, no loud noises or frequent visitors. We recommend an all adult home for him. We think he would do well as the only dog (he entertains himself – LOL) or with another small dog. He has not been around cats so we are not sure how he might react.

Peanut has the cutest trick of standing on his hind legs when he wants something. Your heart will melt when he shares this talent with you. We are betting that you can’t resist this little love bug as he asks for love from you!

Peanut is working on his potty training. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night. We are working on Peanut’s leash training. He is doing fine on walks, but is a little guarded. We are hoping a family will continue to work with him and help him grow his confidence as he matures.

Peanut is being fostered in the DFW area. If this sweet boy sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at HTTP://www.chihuahua-Rescue.com/adoption-application/

Peanut is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. He is ready to join a loving family, could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $270.63 adoption donation required ($250 adoption donation and $20.63 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
