Here's what the humans have to say about me:
** NO DOGS
** NO CATS
** NO YOUNG CHILDREN
** Home Ownership required
CHEWY is a big, loveable, squishy pittie boy, approx 4yrs of age and between 55-60 lbs. He is a short, compact guy who is built like a muscle builder and always has a smile on his face and is sooo happy and friendly to everyone he meets!! CHEWY is very well known in our area and is LOVED so much by the community!
You see, CHEWY’S owner was a very nice homeless man who sat at the parking lot entrance of the local Target Store with CHEWY. He never begged, and would only accept what he needed for himself and CHEWY. He got CHEWY as a puppy, and many members of the community helped with CHEWY’S needs. Wonderful people paid and brought him to the vet to receive his vaccinations, a microchip and even to get him neutered. His owner loved him very much and took good care of CHEWY. He was always clean, (courtesy of the employees at Pet Food Express) de-wormed and given flea preventative, and the community always made sure CHEWY had plenty of good food, treats, bones and toys (as well as his owner). Sadly, in July, CHEWY’S life turned upside down when his owner passed away due to kidney failure. His owner was his life! They were together 24/7 and a fixture in the community. Unfortunately another transient took CHEWY and was enjoying the revenue and gifts from the community, but instead of taking care of CHEWY he was buying drugs and tying CHEWY to a fence in the sun for hours while he lay passed out.
It was reported to animal control, and CHEWY confiscated and brought to the shelter. That’s when Animal Control officer reached out to us to take CHEWY into our rescue program, which we were more than happy to do!!
CHEWY IS A GREAT DOG!!
He is the biggest love bug! He adores people and is literally happiest when he is meeting and mingling with people! CHEWY has a great disposition...He is friendly, playful and loving with his humans. He LOVES going in the car and has an adventurous spirit! CHEWY is always ready and wanting to go everywhere and anywhere! He has good manners and is accustomed to being in public places, so taking him to outdoor coffe shops, restaurants, shopping at Home Depot, Pet stores, camping, beach, picnics is a joy.... Going anywhere is fun with/for CHEWY!
Because CHEWY lived pretty much outside mostly (in a tent to sleep) and was always with his owner 24/7, there are a couple of things his foster family are working on with him... CHEWY is learning potty skills in the house and coming along well... He is also getting more used to being left alone for periods of time and will only protest with a few barks/cry’s when you first leave him, then settles pretty quickly. He is fine sleeping in a crate at night, but does prefer to sleep with you, just as he did his owner for all his life.
CHEWY is good on leash, and is okay around other dogs while on a leash for walks together or hanging out in a group with humans and dogs on leashes. He can be selective though when off leash. Because of this CHEWY should be an only dog in the home. He is not good with cats, so a home without cats is needed.
CHEWY is super fun to play with! Playing ball/fetch is his absolute favorite! He enjoys chewing on his chew bones as well and tug a war with a rope I’d fun too! He is a strong boy and can get a bit rough when he gets excited playing. This coupled with the fact that CHEWY has no experience with children, makes a home without young children a requirement for adoption.
Home Ownership is also a requirement for CHEWY’S adoption.
Because CHEWY’S owner was a man, CHEWY loves men! His absolute best home would be with an active male who works from home and loves outdoor activities and wants a great companion dog to share his life, love and go on adventures with!!
CHEWY’S adoption fee is $300.
He has received a health examination,
Current vaccinations and microchip neuter along with clean and D worming treatment.
