My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello friends...

My name is Mimi and I am a sweet senior poodle. Read below to learn more about me and what I'm looking for in a home and family. I'm ready!!!

Mimi turned about 10 years old in July of 2020 and weighs about 14 pounds. She is not a purebred Poodle. Mimi ended up at a shelter with her 1 week old pups in July of 2013. Mimi was very scared/fearful (scared of her own shadow). She also had/has Luxating Patella, however she is fully mobile and runs and plays. It is not a condition that requires further medical care other than perhaps a joint supplement.

Mimi has now been in rescue for 7 years. Due to her timid nature and former fear biting tendencies, she has yet to be adopted, but is now READY to find her forever home. Mimi's guardian and director of Pups Rescue recently passed away and Mimi is now in foster care with Pawsitive Change Foundation (PCF). She has spent the last 3 months decompressing and grieving her caretaker. Jenn with PCF is also a dog trainer and has been able to assess and work with Mimi's fear and on confidence building. Mimi was labeled a fear biter, barker and unable to walk on a leash. We are happy to report that these are now in Mimi's past. The hustle and bustle environment of living within a busy rescue with dogs and puppies constantly coming and going was not ideal for Mimi. She never really had the opportunity to learn how to meet people or build confidence about being out in the world.

When Mimi arrived with me, she wouldn't give eye contact, curled herself into a ball and probably bit through 5-6 leashes. Mimi is now able to be harnessed and walked, which she enjoys. She has been to the ocean, Oregon, Crater Lake National Park and Mt Shasta. She has also been on hikes to the Delta here in Stockton. If she has another confident dog to follow, she enjoys exploring. She can be anxious in the car (pants alot), but she does enjoy her outings. She isn't a dog that needs daily walks, but I think she would enjoy the routine. She adores grass and loves to roll in it. Mimi has now met lots of people and while her first inclination is to flee and hide, she has approached people to sniff them and allowed herself to be pet and picke dup. She desperately wants love and affection, but won't assert herself. She loves dogs (big and small); she very much enjoys her current foster sisters Daisy and Raven. She is very tolerant, but will let another dog know if she's uncomfortable. She will lay close to you and ask for pets, but she may never be a snuggle bug lap dog. She now gives eye contact with those that she trusts. Mimi has come such a long way and she is a true gem of a dog and a pretty easy keeper (low maintenance). Please see the requirements below and if you'd like to submit an application, please use the link below. Applications and meet and greets will handled via Jenn and Pawsitive Change Foundation.

We will be very selective in choosing Mimi's next home as we would like this to be the last stop on her journey.

We are looking for her ideal home, which includes:

*Someone who will be patient and give her time to win your trust and love; she is a dog you have to earn and it is worth it
*Someone that will understand and not be offended when you walk past her and she leaves the area; or if you approach her too quickly, she'll scoot away from you;
*A home without children

*A home that is relaxed and calm; ideally with someone home, but Mimi does well being left alone in or out of her crate
*A home that will continue utilizing a crate for Mimi; it truly is her safe space and comfort zone (the trick is getting her to leave it!)
*ideally a home with a doggie door, although she will let you know when she needs to go out if you don't have one (once she's comfortable).
*Allow Mimi to sleep where she is comfortable (She will sleep with you in your bed if you pick her up, or on the floor in her dog bed, or in her crate);
*Has a confident pack mate or two to show Mimi the way
*Can provide quarterly haircuts/grooming
*Will commit to continuing her diet (cost: $40-50/month)
