Needs companion dog.
'DRAKE' (aka 'Reeses') is an incredibly handsome, 2 yr. old month old, 65-70 lb., Plott Hound/Mountain Cur/Lab mix male that was surrendered to our rescue. (Born Dec 2019, Drake's Mother was a Lab & his Daddy was a Mountain Cur). Drake is a dear, sweet and affectionate boy, but not confident and anxious, so he will need an experienced, confident, calm, quiet and patient owner to help him blossom as he matures. He loves his routines and consistency, and this helps him gain confidence. Drake is observant and enjoys sitting directly next to his person, receiving 'petting'. He is eager to please, loves praise, and is responsive to calls & commands, once his initial anxiety has lessened and you gain his trust. He then enjoys running back to you, getting hugs and a smooch that he is a 'good boy'. Drake is not really 'outdoorsy', and prefers to sit with you but also return inside, as that is more of his comfort zone. This will change in time as he matures and with gradual socialization and positive exposure to new things over a period of time. Drake has never been 'cat-tested'. He seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, but if they are too rambunctious, he withdraws. A calm, good natured, confident, friendly and gently playful canine companion slightly older (no more than 3 yrs old) would be best if Drake was being considered as a second dog. The high energy level and stimulation of young children is not good around Drake, as it heightens his anxiety, so only upper teenage children or young adults in the household would be ideal. He needs a home that is not filled with noise and hyper-excitement or high levels of stimulation, and gradual introduction to public environments with more stimulation. Drake is also strong, and will need proper leash walking reinforced. Drake is neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, on monthly heart-worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. This rescue does not do it's own 'shots' ... all medical care is done by a licensed, certified Veterinarian or done under their direct supervision (ex., monthly heartworm treatments &/or deworming). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.
