My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rufus
This handsome boy, Rufus, hasn’t been given much of a chance in his life. Rufus was selected for a grandchild when his puppy died. When Rufus outgrew his cute puppy stage, he was deemed too big for the child. He was relegated to live outside on a tether and left to his own devices for most of his life. He came to us on August 22, 2020. We’re so glad to have him.
Rufus is a beautiful redbone Coonhound mix. He’s a little over a year old and weighs just over 60 pounds. He’s long and lanky. His coat is a gorgeous red. He has a beautiful face, with deep penetrating eyes and big floppy ears. He loves having the freedom to run and explore the yard unrestrained by a tether. Rufus moves with elegance and grace. Seeing him in the yard, he seems unbothered by the other dogs. He doesn’t bark or show a lot of interest. He’s easy-going and calm.
In the short amount of time he’s been with us, he is learning to welcome the kindness and attention being shown to him. He’s a cautious dog. He hangs his head when first approached, but when he knows you mean him no harm and aren’t going to yell at him, he responds to the attention with tail wags. We can see that he’s super sweet, friendly and curious and we’re working to build his confidence. Rufus has hardly ever, maybe never, lived in a house and has not been well socialized to those most basic of things. He’ll need to learn how to walk on a leash, live in a house, and ride in a car. But he’s smart and he wants to please. We think he’ll learn fast. As we search for his forever loving home, these are the things we’ll work with him on to help give him a head start for his new family when they find him.
Rufus has good energy and will make for a wonderful hiking or maybe a running companion. Rufus is still so very young and he has soooooo much potential. He’s incredible and just deserves to have a family or person love him and give him the love and security he needs to thrive. He’s going to make for a wonderful companion and be so much fun for his person. If you’re looking for your best boy, Rufus may be the doggo for you.
