Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Meatloaf! She is 10 years old (DOB 11/25/10), 30lbs & seeking a new family since she has shown aggression towards the new 2-legged baby in her family. She has has serious issues with 4-legged siblings too. So, she will be for an adults only family with no other pets... we know! It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack but we are gonna try! Here is the breakdown of who lil Miss Meatloaf is from her family...
“We got meatloaf when she was just turning 3 from a family on the North Shore in Massachusetts. At first glance the house she was in was incredibly large and the owner's reason for getting rid of her was that "the kids just don't pay attention to her anymore". We took her home after a 1-2 hour meet up with our first dog Teddy (currently 9 and at the time was just about 2) and immediately noticed a change in behaviour with Meatloaf.
We decided to try and handle this ourselves for the first couple of weeks thinking it was just the change of homes that had her confused and angry, she was attacking Ted and our cat at the time Frank. We called in a behaviorist who did a walk through of the apt and told us Meatloaf had what's called resource guarding. After a couple of weeks of trainer led exercises and reorganizing some things around the house we had a path forward. For 9 months we followed this plan (strict obedience for food, crate time was around 5-6 hours a day, leash was on at all times and when she was aggressive we had to flip her on her back until she was submissive and had Ted and Frank sniff her). She started to get along with Teddy but never with Frank which ultimately led him to get ill and pass away ?.
Today her behavioral issues still exists but not AS bad with Teddy but are TERRIBLE with other. animals. She is VERY unpredictable and has expanded to our son which is where we need to draw the line and find her a nice home where she is the only animal.
Meatloaf is also a very very territorial dog and likes to mark things (carpets, pillows, beds etc). We have not found a good solution for this. She also will use potty pads or needs to go out to do her business every 2-3 hours to avoid accidents in the house. We tried for almost 3 years to get her house broken but honestly think it's a dominance thing since she will pee in entryways or on top of things that have someone's scent on it.
I could tell stories of all of her health issues and medications but instead I'll just list them here.
She gets a cytopoint shot for her allergies. She gets very itchy and will chew her paws till they bleed.
She has chronic bronchitis and is on flovent. Currently we give her only a puff every few days. When first prescribed it was suggested to do 2 puffs per day. It's around $300 for a refill.
She gets frequent yeast infections (usually in her ears). This was a result of an ear infection that went untreated for over a year at her previous home.
We usually bathe her bi-weekly with douxo shampoo to help her skin.
We believe her ideal new home will be a single person or couple that has older children and no pets.”
