Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Wilma was a baby herself when we rushed to save her and her 6 puppies from the shelter where they had been given a few hours to live; she was about 8 months old.
After nursing her babies, Wilma went to her current foster family. They are veteran fosters, extremely knowledgeable to help harder cases like Wilma’s. She was considered feral and would empty her bladder at the touch of human hands. No eye contact. Frozen in fear. Wouldn’t leave her crate and they worked through each her challenges, one by one. She set the pace and they followed. They never treated her as if she was broken.
Every day she made progress. She fell smitten with her foster dad, which motivated her to leave her crate to follow him around. Her foster mom always encourages the pack to support the foster sibling through their transition. They each assured her that she was in a safe place. They showed her to play, master the doggie door, sit pretty for treats and best, to trust the rehabilitation process.
In the midst of Wilma’s fear, 13-year-old Cyrus, her blind and zen sister, nurtured her and showed her to trust. Cyrus has become Wilma’s greatest healing force and Best Friend!
Wilma recently had her 1st birthday. Since living with her foster family, they have introduced her to home life, the beautiful feeling of the wind hitting your face while riding in a car, sleeping peacefully in a clean and warm bed, being part of a pack, confidence, and the beautiful side of humanity.
Though she is still working through her challenges, the amazing progress she’s made, makes our hearts burst with admiration and love to see her resilience and victories.
Wilma is available for adoption and will need an experienced adopter that will continue to help her thrive. She’s not the type that will jump in your arms or show affection; she’s the type that will come when called and will love you from her safe space; this doesn’t mean that she won’t do it in the future, she’s just not doing that now. She loves dogs and has a resilient spirit. She’s an underdog with a heart of gold that will bring lots of happiness and beauty to the family that adopts her. She’s our hero!
If you’re interested in adopting her, please complete an Adoption Interest Application on our website www.jointhescars.org
