Our sweet girl Leila has come so far in the few months since we rescued her from the San Jose shelter, where she was surrendered by her former owners. This calm, mild-mannered 8-year-old German Shepherd wasn’t doing well in the shelter, as she was very timid and scared. She was especially afraid of the leash. We’re not sure what happened to her in her former life, but we can’t imagine it was positive. All that is behind her now, as she’s been decompressing nicely in her foster home.
Leila enjoys walks and lounging around for most of the day. She is very aware of her daily routine and knows when it is time for her walk. She now excitedly comes to the door and is open to having her leash put on. She walks really well on leash and is generally an easy-going dog. She’s house trained and has never had an accident in the home. When left alone at home, she relaxes and sleeps and does not get into any items at all.
She does still startle easily by sudden movements and loud noises, and she doesn’t like getting pet unexpectedly or roughly. She’s also not a fan of getting brushed. She gets along with other calm dogs. She gets a little more confident every day though. Her foster family shares, “We love having Leila in our home as she is incredibly calm, gentle and adorable.”
Leila likes going on car rides and enjoying the breeze with her head out of the window. She is able to go on hikes, though does not run or play much. Leila likes cheese, turkey meat and bones. Most of all, she would love a forever home of her own. Could that be you?
