Posted 8/3/20. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE YOU CONTACT US. THANK YOU. Theo is a 3 year old pup who came to us because he bit his owner when he guarded his food. This behavior developed most likely because Theo was not trained properly as a puppy thus allowing such behavior to develop. Theo is very handsome and while initially timid around strangers, he bonds quickly with his human and becomes a loyal companion. Theo foster mom worked with Theo for two months, he tried to dominate her 2 bigger dogs but learned quickly his place. He loves to sleep in bed with the foster mom and he can get growly if he is asked to leave the bed. He has never snapped or bitten the foster mom as she was consistently assertive with him. Theo would definitely benefit from continuous basic training exercises so he maintains proper behavior. We think he does like to "run the show" and if one lets him do whatever he wants he can become dominant and could snap or bite. Theo LOVES to be outside so a securely fenced in yard (sorry, small concrete patio does not count) is a must. Theo also loves going for walks and playing with his squeaky toys. He becomes very attached to his human. Theo is a "Coton de Tulear", a breed that originates from Madagaskar and might be relatet to the Maltese. The breed description points out the following: long, soft white coat that requires regular grooming/brushing or hair next to the skin will mat. Witty companion, at times boisterous but never demanding; naturally lighthearted and clownish; possesses gentle and sympathetic awareness; likes lots of attention and lots of interesting toys.
For Theo we are looking for a home preferably in/near Bloomington, IN with fairly active people who can give him lots of attention, play with him and take him for daily walks. Theo is not a "couch-dog". He needs stimulation and exercise including playing with toys to be happy and stay healthy. We would like a fenced in yard and another pup, preferably female and about his size and age would be great. Because of his bite history we would like experienced dog owners and no children. Theo is neutered, he is current on vaccinations including 3-year Rabies vaccination, he is micro chipped, he was just groomed and he is on heartworm/flea prevention. If you are interested in adopting Theo please fill out an adoption application. An application has to be filled out prior to setting up a meeting. In anticipation of a large number of applicants and currently being very short staffed, we can only respond to applications if we consider the next step towards adoption. Theo's adoption fee is $350.
