Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Remember Copper? Copper is returning from training camp next Friday, December 1. FOSTER HOME needed! Copper came to us in June; his time was up at the county shelter. He had been picked up as a starving stray in Aynor and brought in by animal control. He was afraid and heartworm positive so only a rescue could pull him. Copper has been a work in progress as he is timid and scared of loud noises. We don't know what happened to him before coming to us but we wonder if he was a pet and then someone dumped him in the country? Poor guy was nervous outside and wanted to come back immediately into the comforts of his foster home. However, we found if he had another dog to run and play with he did much better; a security blanket if you will. Once Copper trusts you though he really warms up and is such a sweet boy. Still, he wasn’t making much progress and so we sent him to a board and train camp for two months. Copper loves other dogs and loves to play tug of war. He also likes to play with toys, especially squeaker toys. Copper would definitely do best in a home with another dog to give him the confidence he needs. He loves to run and play and would do best with a fenced yard so he doesn't have to go out in the scary world all of the time. He ignores the ducks in his foster neighborhood so we do not think cats would be an issue. However, he has not met any at this time. Copper is a quiet dog and has only barked a few times. He knows his name and will give you a little "head tilt" when you call him. He is afraid of thunderstorms and a calming treat or medication may help with this. Copper has finished his heartworm treatment with us, has all vaccines, is chipped and neutered. He is current on flea and tick preventative and comes with a leash and collar. He will need a proheart injection 6 months from the first one to complete his treatment which costs around $40-50 dollars. Proheart also acts as a preventative so there is no need to give monthly heartworm meds. He comes with all vet records. Copper needs someone to walk him regularly and get him out in the world . He is now crate trained, knows commands, walks well on the leash and is a sweet sweet boy at only 40 ish lbs. He is 2-3 years old. Copper also comes with an instructional video of how to continue his training/exercise which is basically daily walks and a structured schedule. His foster and/or forever home MUST be willing to use these to help his continued growth. Approved application, home visit and adoption donation of $250 required. Copper is located in the Myrtle Beach area.
