Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET GABBY. Gabby is a beautiful little senior female yorkie mix who is 13 years old and weighs 12 lbs. Gabby is being fostered in Dunedin, FL. Due to Covid-19, all Florida foster dogs must be adopted by Florida residents at this time. No exceptions will be made.
UPDATED BIO 07/22/2020: Sweet Senior Gabby is settling nicely into her foster home. Her elderly owner passed away in May as a result of complications from COVID-19, and a family member stepped up to care for her. They are moving out of state and when UYR was contacted about Gabby, we were happy to bring her into our Foster Care Program.
Due to a lifetime of dental neglect, Gabbys teeth were in horrible condition. At her recent dental, she had to have her remaining 14 teeth removed, so she is now a toothless Princess. On the positive side, Gabby is feeling much better already as she was obviously in a lot of pain from the rotten teeth. During the dental, the vet discovered that this sweet little girls jaw was broken in two places, and it appeared that this was done years ago. Sadly, it is not repairable by surgery, but she can live in reasonable comfort now once her mouth heals from all the extractions. She also had two small benign lumps removed. Even though benign, they were close to where her collar is located and they were being irritated by the collar, so it was best to remove them.
We believe that Gabby was abused during the first 5 years of her life, before her recently deceased Mom rescued her from a shelter. Gabby may always be a little sensitive in her mouth area, but if it is just a learned behavior, she may overcome that. She certainly had no problem eating when she came home from the vet! Although dental neglect can often lead to heart disease, the VERY GOOD NEWS is that Gabby's heart is in excellent condition and her health overall is very good. Her little heart is gentle and kind and she will offer the same when she finds her forever home.
Foster mom says that Gabby is a very sweet and calm little girl who eats and sleeps well. She enjoys snuggling into her beds and blankies her favorite relaxation after enjoying the backyard adventures. Gabby hasnt been around small children or cats, but her Foster mom feels she would be okay with children older than 14 years old. Foster Mom is still working on Gabbys house-training and there are noticeable improvements. It appears her accidents may be all anxiety-motivated.
If you think your home would be perfect for Gabby, please submit an adoption application for this sweet senior who is so deserving of a loving forever home.

They are moving out of state and cannot take Gabby with them, and when UYR was called - of course we said yes!
Gabby has a bit of separation anxiety and does not like to be left home alone, so for this reason she needs a home where someone is home all the time, and preferably with another dog in the home close to her size and age for companionship. Gabby is not such an enthusiastic walker yet but she does walk nicely on the leash. However, her perfect home would be one where she had a fenced-in yard since she loves to play in the yard, chase lizards and of course, work on her suntan lol! Due to the recent trauma of losing her mom to COVID-19, then being taken in by a relative, and now being moved to a foster home, she needs some reinforcement on her house-training. Gabby has undergone so many changes recently, and Foster Mom is gently working on her house-training, all the time realizing that Gabby is still sad about the changes in her life.
