My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marmalade is a stunner, just a beautiful cat. Marmalade came from a semi-feral colony and was very sick when we first met him. He had a terrible eye infection. While he is better, we are sure his vision is not perfect in his left eye. Honestly, you would never know as he's active and curious (like all kittens). Marmalade is doing wonderful in his foster home, here's what they say about him: "He is the most affectionate kitten I have ever met! An absolute purr ball looking for someone to share the love! " Marmalade is litter trained and has great house manners.

Their Adoption Process
Additional Adoption Info
Our adoption process involves an application, application review, and adoption fee. You are welcome to visit or ask questions about any of our animals for adoption. Animals are in foster homes and can be met there or at a central location. We encourage all members of your family to meet the potential new addition. All animals receive preventative vaccinations, dewormer and flea/tick medication. We also participate in a pre-adoption spay/neuter program which decreases possible litters as well as expedites the adoption policy for the new family!

More About This Rescue
Located in beautiful Highland County Virginia, the Highland County Humane Society is dedicated to promoting health, safety, welfare, compassionate care and protection of animals through a cooperative engagement with Highland County, its citizens, and other like-minded animal welfare groups. We are a group of dedicated volunteers and foster homes taking unwanted animals from the public as well as the Highland County Pound and neighboring animal shelters.
Our group consists of animal lovers and each of us believes that every animal deserves a loving home.

The HCHS is completely funded through membership donations, private and corporate sponsors, and fund raising events. Your tax deductible donation provides day to day care, veterinary services, food and shelter for the animals under our protection. We are a 501c3 organization formed in 2012 in response to a need in our county. We welcome any help and assistance you may be able to offer and we’d like to thank everyone who has been so supportive and helpful in our creation.
