My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Licorice our sweet lap and bed cat. Licorice was dumped at a kill shelter in Reno Nevada. He was adopted in California in 2015 as a kitten along with his brother and sister by a family who promised to always love them and that they would never end up on the streets or in a shelter. Adoptions are a leap of faith for any rescue group and what happened to Licorice and his siblings is our worst fear. You always pray and hope that the people who adopt are sincere and truthful in what they say. In this case, the family did not keep their word and Licorice’s brother and sister died under mysterious/questionable circumstances (currently under formal investigation) and he was abandoned and left to die out of state. Many people do not realize that at shelters black cats are 98% more likely to be euthanized just because of their color. Shelters are over-crowded and so the black cats are overlooked and euthanized to make room for others. We do not think this is fair or right. We were able to rescue Licorice an hour before he was to be euthanized. He is such a sweet cat and was so good on the long drive back to California. All he wants is to be loved and cherished, as he should be. He does not understand he’s black and less desirable for that reason. He rolls on his back and lets you pet his tummy, a sign of great trust for a cat. He wants desperately to sleep with a human and to be in their lap or lay with them on the couch when they watch TV. He does not want to be alone. He’s a very mellow fellow who wants to spend his time with a loving human.

Our vet has done blood work and given him an exam and he is perfectly healthy and more than ready for a loving permanent home. We are full up now with kittens and do not have a spare room for Licorice (who just lost his foster home) and keeping a loving adult cat in a cage just is not fair to him. So, we are looking for someone who can foster long term or better still, offer a permanent home to this loving and lonely boy. He would be perfect for a mature person who wants a constant and mellow cat companion or any person who wants a loving lap cat.

Licorice is 5 years old. He is litter box trained. He has been fixed, de-flead, de-wormed, tested negative for FELV/FIV and is up to date on his shots.

If you can find it in your hearts to love and accept a black cat into your family, please contact us. If you have questions and/or would like to set-up a time to visit and adopt this special boy, please send me an e-mail with your contact info. There is a tax-deductible adoption donation which will go to Forsaken Cats Rescue, a local 501c3 charity.

Thank You,
