Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Nirvana is such a great dog. Truly. She is pretty low maintenance. She is quiet, unless you first get home. She lets you know she is REALLY happy to see you. She is housebroken, she lets herself out the doggy door. She lets you know when she wants to go in her room, and she doesn't make a peep. She is good with ALL the other dogs here, male and female, old and young, big and small. She is sometimes interested in cats, but leaves them alone when you tell her to, or when the cat lets her know. She is crate trained, walks easy on the leash. She knows basic commands. She is agreeable to everything. She likes car rides. She likes going to the vet. She lets you bathe her easily. She lets the groomer trim her nails without complaining.
She gets ignored at adoption events, and the chaos has her a little on edge and she doesn't show her true self, how she is at home.
It's rather sad that no one really gives her a second look.
Nirvana is a 4 year old, Plott Hound/Lab mix. She is fully vetted, up to date on vaccines, wormed, microchipped, spayed and heartworm negative.
She is now fully recovered from her knee replacement surgery she had in March 2020, and has been cleared for adoption.
She can go on walks and "play" as long as it's not rough housing or full run. She is now integrated with all the other resident dogs and has done very well. Before her ruptured CCL, she attended A Country Kennel, doggy day care, every day, for a year and never had any issues with other dogs. She was boarded there when her former owner went out of town, and the staff knows her well and is fond of her.
She is housebroken, leash trained and crate trained. She is mostly not destructive at all, but she did tear up her dog bed after 6 months of being isolated, one time. She loves to go on car rides and her favorite thing is a belly rub.
Nirvana is ok with cats, leaves them alone when told. Nirvana should go to a home with a dog that is not high energy, as we don't want her to rough house and re-injure the leg we had repaired. She mostly is motivated by human affection, and while she is good with all other dogs, she mostly minds her own business and doesn't really wrestle or engage in play with them. She prefers to be entertained by her human and loves to play fetch.
She would be fine as an apartment dog, but we discourage dog parks, where she is allowed to run freely.
She enjoys her long walks out in the country and is very easy to handle around cars and traffic. She is very friendly with all humans, but when on her leash, can act protective of her handler, with new dogs.
She would be a great companion for someone who likes to take leisurely walks, several times a day. Someone who wants a low maintenance companion, as their best friend.
I would discourage anyone wishing to add her to their family, for a playmate for another dog. She really just wants to give all her affection to a human. She is great with children, and lived with a toddler for over a year and did great, until she ruptured her CCL. She was in so much pain, that when the child jumped on her leg, she warned him by yelping and nipped at the air, never harming the child. But the owner labeled her unpredictable and surrendered her to the shelter. Even though she never bit the child. Her injury was not addressed by the owner, and she was in terrible pain for well over a year. She still reacts positively around children. She loves their attention. But older kids who know their boundaries, would be a better fit for Nirvana.

Once the application is completed and reviewed, we will let you know if you are approved or denied. * There are several reasons we may choose to deny your request to adopt from us. These reasons include but are not limited to: negative references from veterinarian and/or personal references, lack of permission from landlord or breed restrictions on homeowners insurance policy, lack of understanding of needs of rescue dogs, too young, applicant name found on a “Do not adopt” list, etc.* Once you have been approved, a team member will go over all the medical records thoroughly with you, and make sure it's understood the requirements and supplies needed to properly care for your new pup. We will go over the vaccine history, what you can expect as far as behavior from the dog you choose, the food they eat and the needs of each individual dog. You will receive the original medical records when you take your pup home. The adoption fee is $275.00 and must be paid when you pick up your pup. We accept Credit/Debit Cards, Venmo or Cash. No Checks. No out of state adoptions.
