My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dually!!!
Dually is believed to be a Mastiff mix about 7 yrs old. Dually has been homeless her whole life. She’s been in rescue since 2016. Really all she needs is a stable secure home with a confident experienced owner with common sense. She is a homebody and would perfectly happy with just her people. She does not do well with cats and is best as an only dog. She minds her own around new dogs once she is comfortable and knows she is safe. But a home of her own is preferred. She loves training and learning commands. Loves car rides and walks. Drive through for pup cups are always fun. Dually lacks confidence and can be unsure at times. Allow her space she needs and build that bond with her and she is that loyal dog everyone dreams of having. An adult home would be best for her. Well mannered teens are ok. Respect, discipline, routine, structure, and common sense Helps dually feel safe and at home. She truly is not difficult and once comfortable she’s absolutely the best friend anyone could want. Dually has been raised with kids as young as 7 years old. Dually is a breed of dog that is not for the weak minded, or non committed individual. She is guarded but disciplined. She is calm and a bit lazy but truly is up to whatever her person wants to do. She makes the best side kick buddy. She needs a strong owner both physically and mentally confident to guide her. She has been well socialized since birth but always lacked confidence. Dually is currently at the sanctuary with Cindy and her children both autistic but high functioning. Cindy trusts Dually 100% with her kids however her children have grown up around dogs and know how to behave, respect, and handle dogs like Dually daily since age 5. Dually has done well with other dogs properly introduced. it takes time and patience. Trust is everything and she is currently 1 of 32 plus in her group who coexist without any issues. She was at one point 1 of 60 free roaming. She prefers her space and loves her crate/cave. Loves her chew toys and comfy dog bed. Dually walks well on leash, off leash trained, her breed makes her very protective of her people, pack and perimeter but obeys well and will not act on it. Dually is crate trained and housebroken. Dually cannot be adopted out within city limits of Fort Wayne/Allen county or Huntington/Huntington county unless its a confident secure home with a full fence and cautions keeping her safe and thriving. These areas are not ok with her breed. A secured fence in yard is preferred 4 ft and up, no tie out, no chain, no garage living. No basement. She needs to by her people relaxed in a big comfy dog bed. Preferred a home with no other pets. Adoption fee partially sponsored. And she is to be an indoor pet and part of the family. NOT A GARAGE OR SHOP DOG unless its with her owner.
Dually is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona rabies, de-wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, spayed, and current on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention.

We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are a required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets.

We are a volunteer-based rescue, meaning every person involved is doing their best. We are a foster-based all-volunteer program. We are not a government shelter facility nor are we open to the public. Our adoption process can take 2 to 3 weeks from the time you mail it in to the time that we reach out to you. If you are window shopping we are not the rescue for you. We are seeking committed adopters.

More about this rescue

Every animal in our care comes to us with their own story. Many of them have had it harder than others, and have scars that need a healing touch. What they all have in common, is that they came to us from other rescues/shelters that felt they couldn’t take on their individual needs, and give them the necessary care needed to help them bloom into family pets. Most pets we welcome into our program, need extensive behavior and/or medical care before they are ready for their forever homes. We provide each pet with an unlimited amount of time to recover, along with individualized care and training customized to there needs.

We at Animal House Sanctuary love a challenge and have a soft spot for these special pets in need. Most of all, we love seeing each individual pet change into the family pet they were always meant to be. Watching this firsthand, is beyond rewarding and fills us with a joy that cannot be described in words.

We are a 501(c) Licensed Nonprofit organization that is ran 100% by Volunteers. Our mission is to help homeless animals find great forever homes. Our heart is with the community, helping families keep their pets at home. We are involved with informing our local community about the importance of spaying/neutering their pets. We also help feed the homeless and their pets. Senior pets are precious and dear to our hearts which is why we are involved with the Hospice Heaven program. This consists of pulling older cats and dogs from high kill shelters and placing them in a loving home. This often includes matching senior pets with a Senior Adaptor. Sharing joy and respect for all precious life is something that we love doing, and will continue to do, for it fills our hearts.
