My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Benji
GENDER: Male (Neutered)
AGE: About 12 years
WEIGHT: About 6 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Recommend an all adult home
OTHER: Long Coat

Say hello to Benji, one of the sweetest, most handsome boys around! He is a young looking 12 years old, weighs about six pounds and has the softest blonde long coat with white highlights. Benji came with five other Chis to CRT as an owner surrender when his elderly owner could no longer care them.

For the first couple of weeks in his foster home, Benji kept to himself and seemed unsure about what was going on. While he sought out his foster mom for attention, but didn’t interact much with his foster siblings. Now that some time has gone by, Benji has made himself more at home and will hang out in the same space as the other dogs. He has started to ask to sleep in bed with his foster mom and picked out his own special spot!

Benji is a very quiet, well-behaved boy, but will bark when his foster mom has to leave and he is confined in the expen. He quickly quiets down. He listens very well! He knows his spot when it’s time to eat, and once he’s finished, doesn’t try to bowl surf anyone else’s meal. He was a little chubby when he first arrived, but he has slimmed down to where he should be. He is housebroken, but has had a couple of accidents in the house as he has adjusted to his new situation.

Benji has a very calm, chill energy. He hasn’t shown any interest in toys. He loves to go outside and sniff around or lay in the sun and will stand by the patio door to let his foster mom know he would like to go outside. Benji also loves to be scratched above his tail, and will “march” his back legs while you scratch him in that favorite spot! He is a great work from home buddy, and will sleep in a bed under the desk while you work.

The perfect forever home for Benji would be one that is calm and moderately active with another small dog. We don’t know how he is with cats or would be with children as there were no children in his prior home. Given his age and energy level, he would probably do best in an all adult home.

Senior dogs make the best companions and Benji has many years of life and love to give!

Benji is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. If he sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Benji is neutered, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative. and on heartworm prevention. He is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $250 adoption fee plus Texas Sales Tax required (note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable).

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
