My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sam is our 9 year old 76lb velvet hippo rescued from the city shelter after a long stint there. Luckily, he did find a wonderful foster home and is flourishing. Sam is a complete smiling cuddle bug, great leash walker, beach goer, and sun absorber. This little tank also adores butt scratches and ball play.

Call him whatever you want, hippo, rhino, velveteen rabbit, cutie, and Sam will be happy as can be! He just wants your love and attention. At all times, Sam will greet you with tail wags and wiggles. Have a treat or food? No problem! Sam will find his way into your heart, food supply, and lap. Give him the chance and he will sprawl belly up in your lap. Get the ball out and game on! Sam will prance and bounce waiting for you to toss the ball.

Sam is a total gem. He is friendly and calm when passing dogs in the streets. However, he asks to be the only animal in the home. The perfect family for him would be one with kids. He just adores little humans! He would also love a yard or lawn (or beach) to be the beached hippo he dreams of being! Let the sunshine in!

Sam does have cushings disease, which is very manageable. However, he does need to urinate frequently- about every 2 hours. If inside, he will use wee wee pads. A home that can give him easy and quick access to relieve himself would be the best.
