My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet 10k!
We believe 10k also known as Steven is believed to be 3-4ish years of age, hound lab maybe Staffy bull terrier mix, absolutely a super mutt mix.

Homebody, introvert, solitary, loner, hermit. These are all words that perfectly describe the person or persons our boy 10K (aka Steven) is looking for in a forever home.

We get it, some people see these words and cringe or shy away. But the truth is not everyone likes going out all the time or being constantly busy, and neither does 10K. He gets along well with people he meets, but truly prefers his home to be his private oasis. He is not a fan of a bustling household where family, friends or neighbors are constantly coming and going. Don’t get us wrong, he loves getting out for daily walks and does great meeting new people outside of the home, but his home is where he wants to kick back and relax without concern of others interrupting or invading his space (and I can’t say I blame him!).

Other things to know about 10K (aka Steven) is that he loves his humans with everything he has. He is what we refer to as a stage 5 clinger and is not opposed to spooning (he wants all the snuggles). And we get it, not everyone will enjoy that but we also know there are a lot of people who want that constant sidekick. And we do mean constant. He wants someone who will be home with him more often than not. And if you do need to leave, well he wants to tag along. He would love a home where his family either works from home or has a stay at home parent. If you do need to leave him at home be prepared for a pouty, pittie party because this boy can also be dramatic if he knows you are about to leave him (see pictures of said pout while foster mom gets ready for work). 10K is good with kids, dogs and cats. His best buddy is a grumpy bossy chihuahua.

So if you too consider yourself a homebody and want a snuggly sidekick, then 10K is your guy.

10K is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona and rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, neutered, and current on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention.

We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets.

Additional adoption info

We are a volunteer-based rescue, meaning every person involved is doing their best. Normally our adoption application processing review may take 2 to 3 weeks give or take.

Go meet their pets

We are a foster-based all-volunteer program. We are not a government shelter facility nor are we open to the public. Our adoption process can take 2 to 3 weeks from the time you mail it in to the time that we reach out to you. If you are window shopping we are not the rescue for you. We are seeking committed adopters.

More about this rescue

Every animal in our care comes to us with their own story. Many of them have had it harder than others, and have scars that need a healing touch. What they all have in common, is that they came to us from other rescues/shelters that felt they couldn’t take on their individual needs, and give them the necessary care needed to help them bloom into family pets. Most pets we welcome into our program, need extensive behavior and/or medical care before they are ready for their forever homes. We provide each pet with an unlimited amount of time to recover, along with individualized care and training customized to there needs.

We at Animal House Sanctuary love a challenge and have a soft spot for these special pets in need. Most of all, we love seeing each individual pet change into the family pet they were always meant to be. Watching this firsthand, is beyond rewarding and fills us with a joy that cannot be described in words.

We are a 501(c) Licensed Nonprofit organization that is ran 100% by Volunteers. Our mission is to help homeless animals find great forever homes. Our heart is with the community, helping families keep their pets at home. We are involved with informing our local community about the importance of spaying/neutering their pets. We also help feed the homeless and their pets. Senior pets are precious and dear to our hearts which is why we are involved with the Hospice Heaven program. This consists of pulling older cats and dogs from high kill shelters and placing them in a loving home. This often includes matching senior pets with a Senior Adaptor. Sharing joy and respect for all precious life is something that we love doing, and will continue to do, for it fills our hearts.
