Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mozart -- Meet the great Mozart. Yes, this is the Mozart we have been posting about who had neck surgery to correct Wobbler's. Mozart is a very large black/tan 5-year-old male Doberman. He is an easy dog. He has low exercise requirements. He likes sleeping in the sun and hanging out with you. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Mozart is ~100 pounds. He has natural ears. He enjoys going on short walks and is okay on a leash. He has been good in the car. He is house-trained and respects baby gates. He is food motivated. Mozart is currently living with his foster-mom’s Doberman and two cats. He is comfortable in his own skin, wherever he is. He is incredibly sweet.
If you are looking for a dog that will instantly fit into your low-key routine world, Mozart is the dog for you. Until November, Mozart is on a low impact only activities and exercise routine (from his surgery). Personal Note from foster –mom: Mozart arrived at my house while I was having a new roof installed. He never barked at all the banging. He never got upset at the change in his environment or all the workers. He was completely trusting, hung out and took a nap. He is out of shape. He likes going on short walks and will need that to help him build up a little muscle and stamina.
House requirements: No stairs or at least a place in the home where he can stay temporarily without needing to do stairs. No stairs out to the yard. Mozart requires a fully fenced yard.
Mozart's adopter should be someone physically strong enough to handle a big dog like Mozart. Mozart is strong and can pull. He may also need help in the future should he regress at all. The adopter will need to understand his physical and medical needs and have the resources and willingness to spend them on Mozart. We are looking for someone who will do regular checkups and any other medical needs he may have in the future.
Because of his spinal surgery, he should be walked using a harness only, not a collar on his neck or other collars such as prong collars. In general his neck should be protected from rough play, children or dogs rough housing, etc. Mozart is dog friendly but we are looking for a calm environment for Mozart. This might be a home with a calm senior dog or no dogs. We are not looking for a traditional dog playmate that will roughhouse with him.
Mozart is cat friendly and lives with two cats in his foster home.
Mozart is a truly special dog and we are looking for a truly special home, where Mozart will be the star and get all of the attention.
DAR&E places dogs in MD, DC, VA and parts of WVA only.
