Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Deeks is a very affectionate 1 year old Australian Shepherd ready for his forever, loving home.
He is a happy, energetic boy who wants to please his people. Deeks likes other dogs and plays appropriately with them, and is fine with cats, chickens and cows. He craves attention and activity, and loves to romp and play in the yard. He knows “sit” and has a good recall. He is a very athletic dog and would probably enjoy a dog sport like agility or frisbee.
Deeks lived in the backyard his whole life before coming into rescue, so hasn’t been exposed to a lot of different things. Foster mom discovered he didn’t know how to get into a car, but gladly obliged when she picked up and placed him in the car. He is now mostly house trained and will go into his crate in exchange for a yummy treat. He will need an active family and won’t do well crated for many hours a day, though will still need to be crated when his family is gone (until he can be trusted out in the house). He wants to please his people and is sensitive to corrections so will need a kind and reassuring family.
Deeks’ ideal home will have a fenced yard or a large property on which he can run and explore with his family. His family should be ready for an active, energetic pup who wants to play and interact with his human friends. During a recent game of fetch with foster mom, he dutifully fetched and returned the frisbee, but when he discovered she had kneeled down, he took the opportunity to playfully tackle her instead. Silly Deeks. Because of his energetic nature, he would do best in a home without small children.
He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm, flea and tick preventatives. He will need to remain on these preventatives his whole life to keep him healthy. He is being fostered in the St. Louis, MO area, and his prospective family will need to be able to travel to meet him.
