Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We call this guy Mr. Lover Lover because he is just that! Meet Angus! He's our special sweetheart. Angus was found by our friend, Omar, at a car junkyard in Dallas, TX. He had been hit by a car and just laid down in the grass behind the building to die. Omar was alerted to his presence by a couple of guys at the junkyard and he scooped Angus up and took him to the vet. At that time, Angus was unable to walk. Omar asked us if we would take him into rescue and get him fixed up and we agreed. Angus went to see a specialist for his leg and his specialist was cautiously optimistic that the issue with Angus's knee would resolve on its own; however, he saw on the x-rays that that was not the first time Angus had gotten hit by a car. He also had an old hip injury that had already remodeled from being previously hit by a car. So, this poor boy, at only 1 year old, had already gotten hit by 2 cars and was heartworm positive. What a rough start to life! Angus went back to his foster home to recuperate and start heartworm treatment. He went back to his specialist three months later for a recheck and his specialist was right - the knee issue resolved on its own. Angus will have a slight limp (due to the old hip injury) for the rest of his life and MUST be kept on 1000-1500 mg of glucosamine with chondrontin for the rest of his life. His adopter MUST agree to continue that regimen.
Angus has also completed his heartworm treatment while he has been in his foster home. His foster, Omar, has done a fabulous job of rehabilitating Angus and has taken such good care of this special boy and now it's our turn to find him the PERFECT home.
Here is Angus's wishlist for his new family: He wants someone that will give him a lot of attention because he's very loving and wants love in return. He wants a nice big yard and space to run and play, preferably with another dog buddy because he loves to play. He wants to be safe, loved and cherished by his new family and doesn't ever want to be hit by another car or get heartworms ever again. Oh, and if you could sneak him a chicken nugget every once in a while, he'll be your best friend for life! ;)
Angus is very friendly and so, so sweet. He is house trained, and leash trained and he loves his crate. He prefers to sleep in his crate. His favorite food is chicken nuggets if he can score a bite, but he also loves his dog food. Angus has been neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. We did a DNA test on Angus and the results came back as 50% Golden Retriever, 25% Chow Chow, 12.5% German Shepherd Dog and 12.5% Labrador Retriever. Angus DOES NOT enjoy car rides at all. He does enjoy going for walks with people and the resident dog in his foster home. Angus weighs about 60 pounds and is 1 1/2 years old. Angus would do best in a home without a lot of stairs to climb due to his hip. A large fenced-in backyard is preferred. An apartment building is not going to be a suitable home for him due to the stairs and his size. Angus has not been exposed to kids or cats in his foster home, but he does great with the resident dog in his foster home and he is so friendly, we do not anticipate that he would have any issues with kids.
Angus's adoption fee is $650 (that includes GROUND transport from Dallas, TX to the Chicago, IL area). Transport is arranged to adopter upon completion of adoption paperwork. Angus is currently in his foster home in Dallas, TX and will remain there until adopted.
