My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tess is an unusually colored lilac border collie. We are estimating her age at 5 years and she weighs about 34 pounds. Tess was found as a stray near McCall, Idaho and we believe she was a working dog in her previous life.

You can see all the colors of border collies here:

http://www.bordercolliemuseum.org/BCLooks/BC_Looks.html

If only this girl could talk and tell us her history. When Tess arrived at the shelter her teeth were in very bad shape so they did a dental and she had to have several teeth removed. It looked like maybe she had been kicked in the mouth by livestock. She was also very thin and we are working on putting weight on her. In addition, she was having trouble with her left rear leg giving out on walks, but that has greatly improved in recent weeks as she gains strength.

The "Shhhh" command is the "Speed button" when working stock. Tess has a solid Shhhh command and if you use it she will immediately (frantically) start looking for something to herd. So be careful with the Shhhh!

We are considering Tess a special needs dog because she needs to be the only dog in her new home. She has shown some dog aggression while at the shelter and in foster care and too much movement by other dogs seems to trigger this.

Tess is great with people and loves to hang out with her foster mom and help with gardening. We have not seen Tess with children or cats and belive she would be best as an only dog in an adult only home.

Because of Tess' dislike for other dogs, she is not a candidate for the dog park or really any place where other dogs will be. She is not a high energy dog, so hanging out at home is just right for her. She enjoys helping her foster mom with yard work.

Tess' adoption fee is $200 and includes spay, vaccinations and microchip.

If you are interested in possibly adopting Tess, please complete an application located here:

The application is the first step for us. We will then contact you to set up a meet and greet.
