Back in October, one of our most dedicated volunteers was notified about 2 female Neapolitan Mastiffs being sold at an upcoming dog auction. In order to free them from the commercial breeding industry, she independently raised funds, personally attended the dog auction, and freed both of them from commercial breeding facilities FOREVER! As discussed in advance, she officially surrendered both dogs to Mastino Rescue immediately following the auction, so we could take over their care from there.
Sofia obviously had pretty a rough start in life, but she has already made vast improvements, thanks to her loving foster, Lex, in IA. Sofia came to us a little shy, but with the love and patience she has been shown, her world is a happier and more confident place.
Lex has been helping Sofia with basic training, and making the transition to living the life of a cherished family pet. While Sofia is fully crate trained, we are still working on potty and leash training. If you are a traveler, Sofia would make a great co-pilot, as she loves car rides! Lex reports she is highly intelligent, very loving and eager to please. Sofia would do well with a submissive male dog as a companion. If you are looking for a snuggle bug that is especially friendly, and a dog that likes walks, but has lower energy, then please complete an application, because Sofia is your GIRL!
