I'm a happy Lab/Shar-Pei mix boy - about a year old (7/1/2009) - but VERY much still a puppy!
I was rescued from a shelter with severe Entropion; this is a common hereditary defect seen in dogs with deeply wrinkled facial features. This defect caused my eyelids to turn inwards which resulted in scratches on my cornea from my eyelashes that caused my eyes to close. My eyes were completely shut for all of my short life (at least all of it that I remember), meaning I had never seen a thing!
These great folks from New Leash rescued me, had surgery done on my eyes – and all of a sudden, I am a puppy! I am seeing and experiencing things for the first time, which means everything is BRAND NEW! The vet says I will be just fine!
It's important for you to know all this because I'm experiencing many, many things for the very first
time, I really AM like a big overgrown pup. Even though I'm a year old, I'm just learning things like
obedience training and housetraining. I haven't had any accidents in the house as long as I'm let
outside frequently. I took to a leash just fine, and I'm already crate trained.
I LOVE to play, and I get along well with other dogs. I'm still learning to not be so possessive with
my food and toys, though. I'll need a fenced in yard and someone willing to be patient to teach me things and spend time outside helping me to expend my energy! I'd be a great walking or running partner...
I really love being with my people and am quite the cuddly and snuggly love bug.
I'll do best in a home without young children - my energy level can sometimes be overwhelming.
I've been neutered, am heartworm negative, am up to date with vaccinations and am on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.
