**IMPORTANT** Please visit our website where you'll find information regarding our adoption program BEFORE you contact us directly. If a dog is listed as available we are still accepting applications. No dog is shown without an application. PLEASE NOTE: WE PLACE DOGS WITHIN A 100 MILE RADIUS OF OUR WEST CHESTER, PA OFFICE. Due to our size and volunteer limitations, no exceptions will be made. Please do not submit an application if you are outside of this radius. We appreciate your understanding.
Apollo is a 2 year old bi-eyed Husky/Samoyed mix with a full, fluffy, shedding coat to prove it! Fortunately, he’s okay with the vacuum but will need an adopter prepared for some professional grooms to keep his coat healthy. Apollo is an energetic guy and loves walks and runs with his foster family. He’s a smart boy and has learned not to walk into the street without stopping. He has learned basic commands - come, sit, stay (Sibe style), and leave it (most of the time). The Siberian in him is good at defeating gates (over, around, etc) and we’re pretty sure he would succeed at opening a door with a lever handle. A home willing to stay a step ahead of those Siberian traits will be necessary! Stuffed animals can lose their stuffing in his presence but he loves to play tug with another dog. He has Siberian selective hearing and is a talker (Sibe style) but barks like a Samoyed when playing. Apollo rides well in the car and tolerates grooms. Apollo is buddies with his foster brother (a Husky) and in the past lived with a smaller Samoyed, Artemis, who is also up for adoption. It’s not necessary for the pair to be adopted together. They are fostered in two different homes and are doing great hanging out with their foster siblings. Apollo has previously lived with small children with no issues. He will do best in an active home with either another dog of similar size and energy level or an active owner who will make sure he has the physical and mental stimulation he needs. He is housetrained and sleeps well through the night. Apollo desperately wants to chase small animals so a home without cats, small dogs, or other small critters will be necessary.
**Due to the COVID-19 guidelines we are operating with an abundance of caution with compliance to keep our volunteers and dogs safe. This has slowed our process and adoptions will take longer. Please remember that we are dependent completely on the time our volunteers are able to give us. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
We provide adoption services to homes within a 100 mile radius of our suburban Philadelphia, PA office. If you are outside of that area please contact a shelter or rescue group closer to your home. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, microchipped, vaccinated, and evaluated in a private home. You will find details regarding our adoption policy, process, fee, and application on our website (www.arcticspiritrescue.org). Please be sure you meet the qualifications we have listed for the dog you would like to adopt. No exceptions are made regarding the dog's requirements and we take our time to find the perfect home. No dogs are shown without an approved application. We do not have a kennel facility. All of our dogs are fostered and evaluated in experienced private homes.
