Here's what the humans have to say about me:
I am not gonna lie. When Diego goes to his forever home he's gonna hate it. For about 48 hours anyway. lol Diego forms very strong human attachments and he's also had humans let him down.
Diego and his sister, Frida, were dumped in a southeast Austin neighborhood where they lived mostly in a bush on the side of the road for two weeks. The neighbors kept them fed but were unable to catch them. They called our trap team who went out and caught them both in an afternoon.
Diego was terrified and super mad to be caught. But within 2 days, he was his foster mom's shadow. He follows her around, climbs in her lap, and generally refuses to leave her side. He is the best little companion you could ask for. It will be hard for him to move into a new place and leave the safety of his foster mom, feeling a bit abandoned again. But he is fully capable of forming new attachments...he will just need a bit of time and patience.
He is around a 1-1.5 years old, about 12 lbs, and is pretty darn well house-trained. He gets along great with other dogs and we think he will do fine with cats as he wasn't bothering any of the cats on the street with him. He prefers a household where he isn't home alone a whole lot. He is crate trained, but will whine when he is first kenneled before settling in. But he really just wants to be around his people. He likes to play, but is medium energy level and doesn't require an immense amount of activity. As long as you have lots of love to give and will let him share your life with you, Diego will be a happy boy.
