My Story ...
Hi, my name is Girl Friday. You may ask why they call me that. Well here is a little of my story…..
It seems I showed up at this nice lady’s house. Either I had gotten lost of someone put me out there. Anyway, the lady who lived at this house thought I was just the sweetest little girl, but it seems I liked sleeping on her son’s porch. He lived next door to her. Her son didn’t like that I was camping on his porch, so he called the dog catcher, and they came and got me. (That was Friday).
Even though the nice lady couldn’t keep me herself, she was so concerned about my well being that she followed the dog catcher’s truck all the way to the pound and pleaded with the shelter workers not to kill me. (She called me “Girl” thus “Girl Friday!”). The ladies with the Humane Society were there, so they got me out of my kennel and took videos and pictures of me. WooHoo, I had a great time!
You can see that I recently had puppies, but no one knows where they are. It won’t be long before I get my girlish figure back, though. I am very loving and very happy to be with people. (I’ve actually been starved for attention and want all I can get). I am also full of life and energy, too much energy for small children I’m afraid. I can also be quite a handful on the leash. I really need someone to teach me ladylike manners so I won’t end up in the pound again for uncouth behavior.
I have a beautiful slick, shiny, black coat with well placed white markings. Grooming me would be a cinch. All I really need is someone to take the time to get to know me for the sweet and special gal I really am. Could you come and spend some time with me, maybe even adopt me as your very own? I would do my best to make you happy…..*Local adoption preferred. Home visit required.

Cherokee Shelter animals have only 5 days to find a home or rescue group. The Humane Society of Cherokee County’s volunteers work to save as many animals as possible. The $85 adoption fee includes Rabies and DHPP vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchip, and heartworm test.
We are very rescue friendly and try to make it as pleasant as possible for rescue groups to save Cherokee Shelter animals. Please contact us via email at cherokeeshelter@gmail.com regarding rescue policies and pricing.
Because of the short time we have to place animals, and the lack of a veterinary clinic at the shelter, neither the Humane Society nor Cherokee County can guarantee the temperament or health of any animals made available for adoption. We will never knowingly place a dangerous or sick animal. It is impossible in the shelter environment to reliably test dogs with cats or small children. Sometimes the stressful environment may create fearful responses even with other dogs that would not occur in a normal home setting. All animals are not compatible with all families, and we reserve the right to refuse adoption when we think the placement may endanger either the pet or the family.
All rescued/adopted pets must be picked up the same day as their veterinary services. Otherwise boarding and additional payment arrangements must be made in advance.
The Cherokee County shelter is located in Gaffney, SC just a few minutes off I-85 and only about 20 miles northeast of Spartanburg, SC and about 50 miles southwest of Charlotte, NC.
