My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

German Shepherd Mix • 3 years • Female • Medium • 50lbs We found Hema on the side of the road bleeding profusely from his right nostril and took her to two different vets since the first one could not get the bleeding to stop. He stayed at the vet for 3 days while they tried to figure out why she would not stop bleeding. The bleeding was stopped. She was very skinny, and in poor nutritional health so felt this maybe the problem. She has been with us for several years and her nose bleeds if there is hot weather and if she is in direct sun light.  She is a special needs dog because of this. She may have a genetic disorder. Von Willebrand's disease. She is best for a home with no kids and no other pets. Hema does have shedding issues due to some skin problems that require daily care. She is not good with strangers and barks excessively if she hears people coming around. Hema can be destructive with household items so its best not to leave her unattended. She also likes to dig and jump fences so you need to have a large high fence.  Hema can have separation anxiety as well if left alone too long.  She also may have accidents in the home so she has to be watched to be taken outside to go to the bathroom.

We do not have a central location to see our dogs.  Meeting any dog is by appointment ONLY currently. Appointments can be set up to meet any dog in San Diego. Currently we are unable to do any out-of-state adoptions.

If you are interested in a particular dog please FILL OUT an Adoption Application at our website @ http://bajadogrescue.org/ready-to-adopt/adopt and we can schedule you for an appointment to meet with a particular dog if it is available. We do require an application if you are interested in adoption.  If you are interested in potentially adopting please fill out an application at http://bajadogrescue.org/ready-to-adopt/adopt. Your application will be reviewed and you will be placed on a waiting list for the dog(s). If your name comes up on the waiting list(s) we will contact you. You can see the dogs we have available for adoption on our website at http://bajadogrescue.org/shelter-dogs/

Additional adoption info

Step 1
Fill out an application at our website. Do this as soon as possible.

Step 2
Submit your adoption application to us. It may take 24-48 hours before your application is processed and you receive a response back.

Step 3
If your application is approved, we will email you to schedule a "Meet & Greet appointment with deposit for Saturday. We only do appointments and adoption events on Saturday. Our cut off day/ time is Thursday at 5pm to set up any appointments for that week on Saturday. Please make sure you take any family members and other dogs to see how the initial introduction goes. That makes the entry into the new home easier for the dog and for you. You will be given a time and day, usually Saturday to meet your prospective pet. You will be given a one hour appointment window where you can come to meet them. When you get an appointment time and day the dog is locked in for you to see only and will not be released to any one else.

Step 4
Meet your prospective new pet. Spend time time with them and see how it goes.

Step 5
Contract & Payment. You must sign an adoption contract and provide payment. If your "Meet & Greet" goes well, you will complete an adoption contract at the appointment and can take the dog home then. We ask for a suggested adoption donation to help us cover spay/neutering, shots, medical treatment, food, and supplies. These suggested adoption donation amounts only partially cover the cost of expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Then you and your new best friend live happily ever after. It's as simple as that!

Step 6
Take your new best friend home!

It can take a good 72 hrs for a dog to really adjust to his/her new environment. A lot really depends on the dog's past so the prospect of adopting should be well-thought-out & the commitment should be taken seriously.
