Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Available in Ottumwa, IA
Hi my name is Gizmo Bryer and I’m searching for my forever home. I’m 2 years old, 42# and I want to tell you my story.
My family decided they didn’t want me anymore…said I was a bad dog. They didn’t take care of me so I was dirty, matted, unkempt and unwanted. They took me to a shelter but I couldn’t stay there because I was too terrified (do you blame me?). So they took me to another shelter where I was just as scared, but the nice people there were patient and kind. They waited while I poured myself into the back corner of my cage, trying to be invisible. They were patient when it took me 30 minutes to be brave enough to come outside. Gradually, they made me feel safer. I started looking forward to their visits. They gave me a bath (that was fun - no really, I liked it).
Then ASF rescue took me in and sent me to this amazing foster home. Foster mom let me get brave on my own time. But it didn’t take very long because she had other dogs like me who made me feel better and safe, and this amazing yard to play in, and really good food, and yummy treats, and these things called toys, and oh, the most amazing thing… a CAT! Some of my other dog friends might be embarrassed by this, but I think cats are so fun! I have this one cat trained to scratch my neck and straighten my fur. But the most absolutely amazing thing my foster home has is my foster mom. I love her and follow her everywhere. Yes, everywhere. Even when I’m out playing with my doggy friends I check in on her every few minutes just to see if she misses me or needs anything. She says no, Gizmo Bryer, I’m good, now go play. So I do. She always tells me I'm a good dog.
There are lots of herding dogs here. Have you ever seen herding dogs herding other herding dogs? Ha it’s great fun.
But more about me… I’m about 2 years old. I have a beautiful thick red coat (thanks to kitty). I like so many things. Let’s see… running, playing, riding in the car, going on walks, playing in the mud, baths, following mom, dogs, cats, kids (at least older ones… I’ve never been around young kids). I just love being with my people. Foster mom says I’m a velcro dog. In the house I’m her shadow, and outside I play (and check on her).
I discovered toys in my foster home and I like to prance around the house with a toy. I’m a polite eater and don’t guard my food from others.
You know how I told you I was so scared at first? Well I’m still leary of new people I meet, especially men. But I warm up quickly once I know you’re safe. I’m house trained and crate trained. I stay in my crate when foster mom is gone, and I sleep free in the bedroom at night.
I’d love to have another doggie in my forever family, but I’d be good with just my humans also. I need a fenced yard so I can run and play.
I’m neutered, up to date on all my vaccinations and have a microchip. I don’t have heartworms or any of those tick borne diseases and I’m on monthly preventatives. I’m being fostered in Iowa. If you’d like to meet me, please fill out an application. Can’t wait to meet you!
Love,
Gizmo Bryer
