My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bernard was rescued from a local kill shelter where he had originally come in as a stray way back when. Poor guy was adopted and returned three times and he's only one and one-half years old! The odd thing is Bernard is the best cat ever! He's a talker and he's a lover and he's good with other animals and kids. Sadly, it is not uncommon for animals to be returned to the shelter. One of Bernard's return was from Clear the Shelter Day, a day when all the cats and dogs are given away for free. His adopters didn't keep him long and returned him because they "didn't have time for him." With his third return, Furry Friends brought him into their foster/adoption program in hopes of finding a home as awesome and deserving as he is. Bernard is FIV positive (see note below), but he is healthy and happy and lives peacefully with all the other cats and dogs in his foster home. All he needs is a forever home as loving as he is. How about yours?!

UPDATE: Bernard was adopted into a wonderful home but sadly, returned again! This time it was because of him, though, so he is now looking to be a barn/shop cat for someone. He is still a wonderful cat and his adopters concur, but he has litterbox issues that require he be a barn/shop cat. He did not like being left alone and this was his payback. Bernard is looking for a preferably contained barn or shop setting where he will be kept safe at night. If you have this type scenario, please submit an application (reduced adoption fee).

NOTE: Bernard is FIV positive, but don't let this scare you! Bernard is young and perfectly healthy, except that he carries this virus. FIV is feline immunodeficiency virus. Cats can live long, healthy lives with FIV. FIV is primarily transmitted to other cats via bites (must be transmitted through blood) and is not transferred via litterboxes or food bowls. The virus only lives outside the cat for 2-3 hours so it is not contagious to other cats in non-aggressive households. Actually, many people own FIV+ cats and do not even know they carry this virus. It is asymptomatic and unless a blood test is performed, there is no way of knowing if a cat has it. FIV is ABSOLUTELY NOT transmittable to humans or dogs.

For further information please contact us at www.furryfriendsanimalrescue.org/contact-us. Anyone interested in our cats will be required to fill out an adoption application. All our cats will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. We do ask for a $140 adoption donation. To fill out an application on line, just go to www.furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and click on the Adoption Application link.
