Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jelly is a special needs girl. Please read her entire profile. Thanks.
Jelly is a super sweet gal with a super sad story. She was rescued by a local animal control officer after being found abandoned in a tow lot -- sitting in a car with no doors. It quickly became apparent that Jelly is blind (more about that later). We can't imagine how scared she must have been! But those days are well behind her and she is looking forward to finding a forever family who will love and appreciate her for the sweetie pie that she is.
Jelly is a 7-8 year old purebred Boston Terrier and Bichon Frise mix (sounds odd, right? but her DNA results show she comes from two purebred parents). She is a loyal companion with silky-soft curly fur who loves to curl up at your feet, settle in your lap, and follow you around the house. Jelly is real cutie-patootie who loves to go for walks, car rides, and anywhere else you might lead. If she has to stay home, you can expect she will excitedly greet you, wagging her tail and jumping for joy when you return home.
Jelly is a special needs dog who has diabetes, and is blind as a result. This does not slow her down in the least! Jelly is an intrepid explorer and seeker of adventure. Her attitude is, “sure, I might bump into something every now and then, but doesn’t everybody?” It is likely she can perceive light and shadows, so she can follow you around a little better during the day or with all the lights on. She loves riding in the car at night when she can watch the lights of the other cars and street lamps go by.
Jelly will need two insulin injections per day for the rest of her life, which can be easily administered by her humans (cost is about $30/month, which we will help with for the first year). She also receives eye drops once or twice a day to ease dryness in her eyes (cost is about $40-$50 for a tube that will last a few months). Otherwise, she is a healthy, happy girl ready for a loving family and forever home. She gets along fine with other dogs and although untested with cats, would likely be OK with them. Due to her blindness, Jelly’s new family should not have children younger than 10 years.
Jelly is a reliable user of puppy pads, and will also do her duties outside at any opportunity to go out. Her foster mom is teaching her to sit and come, but she would benefit from additional obedience training.
Jelly recently took a road trip to Florida with her foster family and loved every minute of it! Her endearing, adventuresome, fearless personality helped her make new friends everywhere she went. She is a special pup.
Jelly is about 14 pounds (she was extremely malnourished when we rescued her, so she may not be at her ideal weight yet, but will stay small). She is spayed and up to date on shots.
If you are interested in opening your home and heart to Jelly, please complete an adoption application, which you can get from our website at http://www.baystatedogs.com/adopt.html (you can complete the online application or the Word document - whichever is easier for you).
Note: The adoption process includes an application, vet reference, phone interview, home visit, personal meeting with the dog, and adoption contract (adoption fee is waived for Jelly).
